Remonstrance Against Obenchain Road Bond Issue

John W. Young and fifty taxpayers appeal to the county auditor against the Board of County Commissioners approval of a $51 000 bond issue to build a road west of Green Castle to the township line. The State Board of Tax Commissioners will set a hearing date. Remonstrators say a macadam road would meet travel needs at lower cost.

Spanish War Vets to Attend State Meeting

Several members of the Earl Fiske camp Spanish War veterans will travel to Terre Haute for the twenty ninth annual encampment. The event runs Sunday through Tuesday with headquarters at the Deming hotel and a prepared program. Some locals depart Saturday for pre meeting duties while others leave Sunday.

Car Thief Convicted In Indy Trial

Sheriff Edward Eitelforge attended the Indianapolis trial of Garby Mills who was found guilty of selling stolen car accessories from Malcolm Bruner of this city. Bruner’s Ford was stolen May 7 and later found abandoned. Mills received 110 years at Pendleton. Eva Elmore implicated but not convicted. Helen Christine Hammack seeks divorce from Robert A Hammack filed in Putnam Circuit court alleging cruel treatment. Victory Home for Boys receives 125 books donated by Rev. F M Heaton of Bloomington.

Miss Bell plans to inspect the Bellanca Columbia at Roosevelt Field this afternoon. The single motor Bellanca in which Charles Levine and Clarence Chamberlin crossed to Germany has been turned over to her for the flight.

In St Joseph Michigan Marguerite Bumbaugh pleaded guilty to manslaughter in the death of Walter H Cook a Niles basket manufacturer. Her plea secured unconditional release for her brothers George and Gerard who faced murder charges.

Speed Record Sought by Two Flyers

In a San Diego to New York attempt the nonstop flight was forced down near Harrisburg by fog. The Yankee Doodle Lockheed Vega, aiming for 160 mph, departed San Diego to break the 26 hour east to west record with pilots Lee Schoenhair and owner Harry Tucker aboard.

Shumaker Plea Waits Decision In Wet of Record Case

Circuit Judge Cyrus Pattee held the Shumaker plea in abeyance after lengthy briefs from Indiana Anti-Saloon League counsel led by Ethan Miles arguing the Gilliam affidavit was insufficient to prove Wet of Record status. State advocates including Gilliam, Schwartz, and Kane pressed the Corrupt Practices Act charge in the pre primary issue edition.

Beechwood Circle Hostess and Local Social Notes

Mrs. Arnold hosted Beechwood Pleasant Circle in Fillmore with eighteen members and three visitors. A jumble contest was won by Mrs. Henry Jackson and refreshments followed.
