Trust Company Made Receiver in Putnam Foreclosures

The Citizens Trust Co. has been named receiver for Prudential Insurance Co. in two Putnam county foreclosure cases. It serves in the Mahon 80 acre Floyd township farm foreclosure and the Holland wire farm 122 acres on state road 43 just north of the Harvey O'Hair farm north of Greencastle.

Greencastle Chamber Plans All Indiana Air Tour

The Greencastle Chamber of Commerce outlines its activities and aviation plans as the All Indiana Air Tour arrives June 17 at 1:80 to 3:30 p.m. at a new field southeast of Greencastle. About 30 to 35 ships will display new features while merchants release toy balloons to drum up interest.

City Demonstrates Road Roller Purchase in Green Castle

The city unveiled its new road roller bought for 2450 dollars and the old steam roller was also unloaded in Green Castle. A demonstration occurred on Hanna Street Tuesday morning with many city officials in attendance.

Lena Ellis files large claim against Harriett Peek estate

Lena Ellis, longtime housekeeper and nurse for Harriett L Peek of Greencastle, seeks 17 782 dollars for 39 years of services. The claim covers housekeeper work from 1891 to 1950 at ten dollars weekly and two years of nursing at two hundred fourteen dollars weekly, with credits reducing the balance to about four thousand two hundred eighty two dollars.

Indiana reports 4 684 acres new forests statewide

Richard Lieber reports that Indiana added 4 684 acres of forests as counties continue setting aside waste lands for intensive reforestation. The 1921 act allows reduced taxes on three acre or larger timber stands, aiding permanent forestry production and local tax incentives.

Nine Injured in Auto Crash North of Crawfordsville

Nine people were injured, one seriously, when two cars collided on state road 45 about ten miles south of Crawfordsville Sunday night. Injured include Mrs. Clay Adams and Clay Adams of near New Market, Pearl Dierdort of Morocco, Donald Dickey of Lafayette, Keith Hunter of Lafayette, B. R. Buckmaster of Lafayette, plus three Adams children. The Adams car was struck broadside after attempting to cross.

Fire department horses sold to former driver in Greencastle

Twenty years ago in Greencastle the faithful fire department team named Tom and Levi were sold to their former driver Ben Williams for five dollars. One horse was 27 and the other 28. George Christie Reese Matson Charles Wood Brick Cornell joined the Nine Oclock Tea club. Andrew Hanna had a birthday and received a gift. Schroder Not Torch Victim in Indianapolis Case

Police search for a woman companion of Harold H Schroeder as they pursue leads on a dismembered torso found in his burning car. Miss Ruby Blue and Jack Allen recall picking up a man near the scene wearing a raincoat with H H S initials matching Schroeder. The victim’s identity remains unknown and investigators probe insurance policies and other details.

Democratic Mayors Meet to Discuss Utilities Plank

Sixty two Indiana Democratic mayors will gather in Indianapolis on June 9 to discuss adopting a party plank to remove municipally owned utilities from state service commission control. Anderson mayor Jesse Mellett announced the plan at a weekend harmony rally in French Lick. A committee led by Jack M. Edwards and W L Petro was named, with nineteen mayors attending.

Operation on James Hughes Broken Leg Today

James Hughes son of Judge and Mrs James P Hughes was operated on this afternoon at St Anthony hospital Terre Haute to realign a badly knitted leg fracture from an automobile accident. Surgeon Dr Karl Ruddell of Indianapolis used a plate to secure the bone while Miss Virginia Owens of Greencastle, a 1970 graduate, entered Central Business College in Indianapolis.

Yeggs Blow Safe At Trembly Williams Wholesale

Burglars used nitro vin to blast an unlocked safe at Trembly Williams Wholesale on the north side of Greencastle. The robbers rifled cigarettes tobacco and candy, leaving fingerprints, a crowbar and a medicine dropper near the wrecked safe. Local police and Indiana State Farm fingerprint expert D. Williams compare prints to state files for identification.

Illinois Man Held May Be Amnesia Victim

George Howard, who gave his address as Thinville, Illinois, is jailed in Putnam County for investigation. Sheriff Edward Eitelforge was called to a Morton area farm about 7 am and detained Howard. He alternates between amnesia and rationality, claiming to have two girls and a car with no findings to support either claim.
