Levees on River End Work of U8 in Lower Mississippi
A comprehensive Mississippi levee pamphlet argues government progress on flood protection is substantial but uneven since 1810. It cites $30,000,000 spent by the federal government and over $75,000,000 by localities, urging a total $60,000,000 more to complete the levee system. It compares costs abroad and highlights 20,000,000 acres being made productive with adequate levees and the potential cotton yield increase. It also notes the creation of the Mississippi River Commission in 1879 and past congressional funding lapses.
