Homer Smith of the Iowa State Penitentiary prepared to return John Martin alias John McCarty from Indiana to Iowa. George Rumbarger Civil War veteran dies near Greencastle
George M. Rumbarger, 77, died at his home four and a half miles east of Greencastle near midnight Friday. Born in Pennsylvania November 22, 1843, he served in Company F, Fifth Regiment, Pennsylvania. Survived by wife Nancy E. Rumbarger, a sister Miss Kate Rumbarger, a granddaughter Della McFarlane, four grandsons, and eight great great grandchildren. Funeral Monday at 2 p.m. at the residence with Rev. L D Dody of Greencastle officiating. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery.

Traction car strikes auto near Greencastle injures none
A traction car hit a car returning to Greencastle from Reelsville at stop 35 southwest of town. Mrs F C Tilden and four others escaped serious injury when Mr Tilden steered into a steep embankment to avoid a direct crash. The auto front was crushed but all occupants were unhurt. the crossing view is obstructed and the motorman whistled too late.
