Retiring City Administration Records Strongfinances

The retiring Greencastle city clerk Gwin Ensign reports a sound fiscal condition after eight years in office. Total funds on hand were 25 858.21 with allocations across general park gas tax sinking and fire truck funds. Mayor Mc Gaughey notes 273 police court cases with fines totaling 10 105.50 and varied charges.

Green Castle inaugurates new city council amid calls for unity

Mayor W. L. Denman outlined the Democratic administration’s aims at the first council meeting in Greencastle. He urged prompt, fair work and respect for opposing views while warning on law enforcement. M. J. Murphy reported Mrs. Ernest Browning’s permanent injuries from an East Seminary street accident and discussed potential defendants and damages.

Muncie Ind January 7 police overhaul under new mayor George R Dale Democrat. He dismissed the entire 42 officer force and hired 39 newcomers with no prior police experience. Three more appointees to come. Dale conferred with Calvin Faris, defeated Republican primary candidate. Mrs Faris reportedly to become deputy city controller.

Kolb to Stand Trial for Murders in March

Rushville Indiana January 7 George Kolb alleged slayer of his second and third wives by strychnine will go on trial March 3 after attorneys conferred with Judge Titsworth. Kolb has not spoken since being jailed following a suicide attempt while in custody.

ASK HOSPITAL BOARD TO GIVE PROPER SERVICE

Petitions from the Township Trustees and County Commissioners were prepared at the regular monthly meeting urging the Board of Trustees of Putnam County Hospital to care for pauper patients free of charge. The current plan requires townships and county to pay regular rates for nonpaying patients, reversing earlier reduced-rate practice.

Aged Roachdale Woman Dies After Illness and Hip Fracture

Amanda Jane Johnson 89 died at her Roachdale home Saturday after three months of illness. Born December 1 1841 in Putnam county she was married to Russell Johnson in 1863. Survived by two sisters a brother a foster daughter and nieces and nephews funeral Monday at 10 50 in Roachdale M E church burial in Roachdale Cemetery.

The county shows an assessed property valuation of 17 180 964 with 3453 taxable polls. Each child aged 6 to 21 receives 1.81 in school funds. 5608 children in this age group exist in the county. Officials report Greencastle first class post office growth since 1912 building. Ernest Stoner and Clarence Hollick, both since 1902, note revenue rising from 15179 in 1912 to 42657.03 in 1929 with December 1929 receipts 4594.61. Local firms banks newspapers and industries drive volume.

Cloverdale town council held its first meeting of the year. Pred Fultz was elected chairman of the board. The appointment of a town marshal and other officers was postponed to a later meeting.

Eleven year old girl struck by car near Putnamville

Miss Margaret Ellen Barr 11, daughter of Mrs. John Bisley, Putnamville, suffered severe injuries when an automobile bound for Indianapolis struck her near her home at noon today. The driver stopped and gave his name and license number. She received care from Dr. Inret of Cloverdale and Dr. W M McGaughey at Putnam County Hospital. She has a deep scalp wound, a broken collarbone, and injuries to the hips. An X ray was taken to assess injuries.

Chamber of Commerce Directors Discuss Lehman Firm Visit

The Greencastle Chamber of Commerce directors met at the First National Bank to consider inviting the Spencer Lehman company, a Pat ent medicines maker, despite competition with druggists over inferior products. A committee will study the firm. They also discussed forming a Junior Chamber of Commerce and plans to counter grim talk with positive campaigns.

Five Die in Indianapolis Suburban Fire from Oil Explosion

Five members of the Donald Kleusner family died at a city hospital after oil exploded during a stove repair in their Mars Field home in a Indianapolis suburb. Survivors are six month old twins Evelyn and Everett with facial burns.

Last Rites Held for Russellville Woman

Funeral services for Mrs. Belle Ramsay 60 wife of Charles Ramsay of Russellville were held at the Federated church in Russellville. She died Sunday of heart disease.
