A freight wreck occurred when 24 Big Four freight cars derailed near Crow's Bridge three miles east of Greencastle at 6 39 Tuesday morning. A large stone fell onto the track, destroying Extra Freight No 6023 containing foods.
Extra freight train No. 6023 of the Big Four derailed when a large stone slid from a flat car near Crow's bridge three miles east of Greencastle. The front engine and nine cars stayed on track while 24 rear cars toppled. Crew, including Conductor Beam and Engineer Milliner, escaped injury as traffic detours and right of way clearance continued.
Bishop Herbert Welch of Korea lectures on missions at the university chapel. He says Christ calls people from their talents to serve as fishers of men and that leadership by Christ ensures success, inviting townspeople to attend the final Beamer course lecture at 7 in Meharry Hall.
Indianapolis report details Dr. Harry E. Barnard ruling allowing customers to claim credit for flour substitutes when no wheat flour is purchased. An aged resident of Clinton Falls, Asbury Carmichael, died near noon today after a long illness. Information from Indianapolis reports that Frank Allen, local contractor, is recovering well and his condition is improving.

A Hendricks county resident and former public school teacher and post office clerk, he backs the President's war policy and aims to win the district seat. He leads the Postal Clerks' Organization and joins Indiana Democratic Club as Crescent Club holds weekly Red Cross dressings room meetings.
Gr eencastle Auto Truck Line Company Incorporated at Indianapolis will haul goods over a 50 mile radius. Twenty two routes to be operated.
The Intercommunities Transfers Terminal Company of Indianapolis was incorporated with a 50000 capital to run a cash and carry truck route system within fifty miles of Indianapolis. Ten trucks will depart Chicago tomorrow. twenty two routes are planned, with operation aimed to begin after April 15. Routes tie wholesalers to retailers via a central terminal.
James H. Hurst of Greencastle declares his candidacy for the Democratic nomination for Putnam County Treasurer. A veteran campaigner, he notes past near misses and says wartime conditions reduce need for personal canvassing while farmers and business men stay busy. He stresses postwar money value of thrift stamps.
County officials prepare six month voter registration for Greencastle and Putnam County men ahead of fall election. The Garfield high school basketball team of Terre Haute will host G H S on the local floor for the season finale. This first Terre Haute clash in several seasons draws interest. Garfield beat Wiley of Terre Haute 46 33 and 28 23 this season and aims to sharpen for next weekend's tournament. They travel to Cloverdale Saturday for the return game.
Letter from Professor Claude Michelon to the Greencastle French Relief Committee thanks them for three boxes of supplies sent to aid suffering people in France. He remarks that Lafayette’s spirit and American deeds during critical hours will immortalize the American flag on the French continent.
Fuel Administrator Garfield urged households to buy their normal coal supplies as soon as available for next winter. He denied suggesting last year that people should avoid stocking coal for this winter.
