Dr Michael M Stolz 94 of Lucas Kansas the oldest living DePauw graduate will receive the Goodwin Memorial Cane during Founders and Benefactors Day exercises Saturday He is the sole living member of his 1862 class The cane was passed with the death of Major John G Dunbar of Greencastle class of 1861 Stolz cannot attend the events.
The Greencastle High School vocational agriculture department hosts the third feeding meeting with Central National Bank and Central Trust sponsoring. Veterinarian Dr. T A Sigler will discuss pig diseases and post mortems, while Gratton Longeden and Lowell Dicks share swine sanitation and feeding methods.
A fire at 703 South College, near the Robert Black home, started around 6 15 pm Tuesday due to defective living room wiring. City firemen halted the blaze with chemicals before it spread. curtains and upholstery were burned, but overall damage was slight.
DePauw University announces a summer term from June 9 to August 10 with educational trips to Marmon Motor, Kingan Packing, Eli Lilly Laboratories, and the Putnamville state farm. High school summer session continues to aid practice teaching, guided by director H. B. H. Greenelaf and a staff including T. G. Yunker and F. C. Tilden.
Deputy Sheriff Alva Bryan investigated three new poultry thefts in Putnam County, Midwest road area. Dr V Sallust lost 19 Butt Rock dens and Nelson Wilkenberry 50 Barred Rock hens. neither recovery nor solid trace found. The thefts, linked by tire tracks, may involve Indianapolis transport with potential insured loss for Sallust.
Maurice Williams of Greencastle Route 2 was in a collision with a Gardner Bros see truck at Bloomington and Anderson streets. The Williams car had a broken right rear wheel and bent fender after hitting the curb. the truck sustained no damage.
Putnam county high school principals will gather with County Superintendent John C. Ver million Saturday to choose a place and date for the county oratorical contest on the Constitution. Several schools named orators to represent them, with county winners advancing to the state contest and onward to national competition.
A missionary meeting will be held at the Church of the Nazarene Thursday night at 7 30. Rev Mr and Mrs J E B Cowan returning missionaries from Africa will share field curios and speak on conditions among the heathen. A free will offering for missions will be taken. Everyone is welcome.
Lawrence Isenbarger alias Charles Fremont alias George West confessed to seven robberies after a birthday package mix up at a city filling station. Police and a newsman arrival scared him as he tried to flee with $15.50, ending a rapid chase and multiple holds ups in Indiana and Ohio.
Representative Louis Lardlow will introduce a bill at the request of the American Legion to authorize a $500,000 appropriation to double the capacity of the veterans hospital planned for Indiana. The bill shifts from 150 beds to 500 beds, with location yet to be fixed by the hospitalization board.
Cloverdal and Belle Union high schools stage the second in a three game series tonight in Belle Union gym with proceeds benefiting both schools. Belle Union teachers face Cloverdale or Quincy teachers in a preliminary, with Cloverdale entertainers returning after a big win last week. A final game is set for Wednesday February 26 at the school drawing the larger attendance.
Stated meeting of Temple Lodge No 47 announced for Wednesday at 7:50 a.m. Wallace Long serves as Worshipful Master.
Walter L. Evans won the loving cup as capital prize at the Terre Haute Poultry Show. Henry Williams earned best black Langshans while Henry O'Mair showed buff Plymouth Rocks. Ex-county treasurer John T. Edwards of Roachdale visited. George E. Blake bought a new moving picture machine for the opera house. Mrs. Sarah Lane broke her hip at home south of town this morning.
The forecast calls for mostly fair conditions tonight and on Thursday. Temperatures remain mild with light winds and no precipitation expected.
Ladoga on February 25 will host the North Salem M. E. church for the second quarterly conference. A basket dinner is planned at the teen hour, with Dr. Briggs district superintendent presiding at Sunday morning services. Church members and friends are invited.
The second in a series of feeding meetings sponsored by Greencastle High School Vocation Agriculture Department Central National Bank and Trust Company and County Agent Lloyd W Miller covered poultry care. Speakers included J O Ferguson Terre Haute on hatching brooding and feeding. Mrs Robert Irwin Greencastle on White Leghorn flock development. Piercy Sinclair Cloverdale on baby chick and laying hen methods. and a feed representative on sanitation for poultry rises.
The program for the Fillmore farm institute on Friday February 21 is announced. Activities include a morning session with music and talks such as What We Expect of the Farmer Today, A Little Child Shall Lead Them, and discussions on committees and cooperative buying. Afternoon reports from Fillmore School and MQRC, followed by more music, a session on Making Country Life Better, prize awards, and a closing string quartet led by Rev. C Howar Taylor.
On account of Washington's Birth day anniversary the post office will be closed all day Saturday Feb. 22. No mail will be delivered by city or rural carriers. The city carriers windows will be open from 11 a. m. to 12 noon. Parcel post truck will deliver parcels only. Incoming mails will be received as they arrive and outgoing mail will be dispatched to all trains.
DePauw University marks Founders Day with a full alumni schedule starting at 9 am with an Alumni Council meeting, address by G Bromley Oxnam, and a luncheon for faculty, seniors, and alumni. The afternoon features a chapel address, a procession, and campus tours, followed by a 7:30 pm Little Theater showing of the Mean-On Revue to raise funds for a women’s union building.
Hubert A Balaman a 27 year old Hendricks county farmer and Ethel Robertson an 18 year old Putnam county resident obtained a marriage license at home.
