East Grencastle youths crawled through transoms to enter Rector Hall on Wednesday. They admitted entering about 25 rooms before being caught on campus by Marshall O H air and university officials. Police investigated possible theft but no items were reported missing.
The Indiana conservation department requests citizens to feed and provide water to birds during ice and snow cover. Officers warn that without action many birds valuable to people could perish. Superintendent George N. Fannfeld appeals to 108 fish game and bird associations in the state to help. residents are urged to scatter bread for birds trapped by deep snow.
Indianapolis livestock receipts show hogs 13 000 cattle 800 and lambs 500 with hogs firm to 50 cents lower at the opener. Hogs under 180 pounds at 10.50. 180-200 at 10.00 to 10.25. 200-225 at 9.75. 225-250 at 9.50. 250 up at 9.50. Pigs steady at 10.75. sows down slightly. cattle and calves steady with top yearlings at 18.00. sheep and lambs steady with top lambs near 1000.
About twenty five members of Roachdale I O O F Lodge with their degree staff travel to Greencastle Saturday night to confer the first degree on a class of candidates from Putnam Lodge No 4510 C F Following the degree work lunch will be served and a social time enjoyed.
Mrs Edna Lockridge a music teacher in West Lebanon Indiana will return to the town Saturday after spending the holidays with her mother Mrs F A Arnold in town.
President Wilson refused a $150,000 offer from a syndicate to write an article of his choosing saying no article was worth such an amount. The decision was announced at the White House on December 29.
Five masked robbers attempted a daylight holdup at the State Exchange Bank in Culver Indiana. A gun battle with a pursuing posse left four bandits captured and two wounded. J R Laine was shot in the jaw and is listed in serious condition. Ten thousand dollars in currency was recovered.
Fair honest and courteous in his administration of county business. Reason E Larkin of Jefferson township who for six years has served Putnam county as a member of its board of county commissioners will leave the office the first of the year with a record of which the Democratic party is justly proud. David J Skelton who will succeed Mr Larkin on the board is an other Democrat who has a record of sterling business qualities and who promises to be a fitting successor to Mr Larkin. Mr Skelton is a Washington township farmer and business man. Howard Harris sheriff and Mr Larkin commissioner are the officers who will leave office on January 1. C G Webb county treasurer Fay S Hamilton prosecuting attorney and Arthur Plummer county surveyor will each begin new terms in office however.
Ford Motor Company has closed its Detroit plant indefinitely for year end inventory. The plant, closed December 24, will not reopen until late in the new year, due to low business mood. Fifty thousand workers will be out of work.
Cecil E. Hamm 38 and Deputy Sheriff Robert MacBroom 48 were wounded in a Harris Avenue drug store shootout after Hamm resisted arrest. Hamm, found at Limestone street near New York street, fled the scene dropping his gun. both men were hospitalized with serious injuries.

Railway circles rumor that the Southern railroad will take over the Monon on New Year Day and fold it into its system. Charley Meikel of up north Jackson street mourns the loss of Topsy the family horse aged twenty seven next month. The horse had been with the family for sixteen years and died from old age and debility. The faithful animal’s passing deeply affects the household.

Raymond O Neal son of Mr and Mrs John O Neal of Howard street Greencastle cashed a $25 bad check at the Model Store then passed more bad checks at the Sudranski store and the Greek Candy Store. He fled town and later telephoned his mother from Indianapolis saying he had joined the army. The father paid the checks.
The Modern Priscillas hosted a surprise party at Mr and Mrs Chas Broadstreet home. Guests included Rex Rafferty and others with a program of recitations speeches and charades. The Broadstreets plan a winter visit to St Petersburg Florida after a merry send off.
The Indiana secretary of state automobile department reports over 26 000 automobile licenses issued for 1921 2. The first 25 000 licenses were sent out and department sales including mail shipments total about 3 000 plates today.
