Putnam post of the American Legion receives a wall plaque for leading the district in membership during the drive. The ceremony at Bainbridge marks the campaign's success, with transport arranged for ex service men wanting to attend. John R. Reker of Vincennes will visit Green Castle on January 6 to meet the service committee.
Gilfred Gibson 38 and three brothers stormed Washington county jail to seize men in Patton Gibson feud. Otis Gibson 21 was killed by town marshal Elmer Gerald. Gilfred surrendered after a posse surrounded his home. two brothers fled, others taken to county jail. Sheriff Trinkle and deputy wounded in the incident.
Memorial Presbyterian pastor Rev. A. Arthur of Crawfordsville sustained serious injuries in a Friday afternoon collision on a curve about a mile and a half west of Pittsboro. His grandson Richard Arthur age 7 and Mrs. Arthur were less seriously hurt. The other driver was N. D. Rife of Louisville with Illinois plates. his car collided with Rev. Arthur’s on state road 9 near Broadway.
Putnam County students return to class after a full Christmas break. County superintendent John C. Vermillion says schools will not dismiss on New Year’s Day, keeping a normal schedule for the holiday week.
A four story brick North Dakota Capitol building burned extensively today with many state records, funds, and documents destroyed. Governor Shater urged an emergency meeting as losses exceeded six hundred thousand dollars and key papers from the land and treasure departments vanished. The Constitution survived along with the state’s investment records and the state treasure office files, though damaged.
Indiana health officials report cerebrospinal meningitis outbreaks at the Putnamville Penal Farm in December with 30 to 40 prisoners released daily, raising concerns of a statewide epidemic and the need for a full-time lab technician to conduct throat cultures.
Armand Greeson a 24 year old creamery worker of Mooresville wed Ruth Morphew a 20 year old from Bainbridge at home. The couple received a marriage license in the local record.
Mrs. Anna Marie Eitel 68, widow of John Litel, died at home on Melrose avenue early Sunday after extended heart disease. Funeral Tuesday at 1 pm, with Rev Victor Raphael officiating. interment Crown Hill cemetery Indianapolis. Surviving: children Jacob Eitel and Miss Macha Eitel of Greencastle, Janet Dunnington of Lewistown Montana. Malecote of near Roachdale surrendered at the Putnam circuit court after filing an affidavit by Rollie McVey. He waived arraignment. trial date set for January 5 at the start of the term. Released on own recognizance. Charge stems from a crash on State Bowl 86 north of here.
Members of both petit and grand juries for the January term were drawn by the jury commissioners at the clerk's office in the county courthouse. The term begins in January with most of the first day spent in calling the bar docket.

It notes a shooting match in Fillmore and announces Matt J Murphy of Crawfordsville forming a law partnership with LA Hays and moving to Greencastle.
Local players from the Chevrolet team and Lo Sterne team of Twinapolis will headline a charity basketball doubleheader to benefit the unemployed in Greencastle. The event starts at 7:30 PM with Rotar y and Kiwanis supporters staging a drive to boost ticket sales and proceeds.
The Wirhiel Valley Electric Company and Greencastle Ga and Electric Light are segregating customers into new meter reading districts. Meter bills will be read on two different days each month to reduce cashier congestion and improve service. January bills may cover varying periods and arrive on different dates as the change is implemented.
Twelve inmates described by Warden Daly as the most desperate attempted a breakout at Indiana State Prison as Joseph Burns used a spoon to fashion a key and open a cell door. Guards and firemen quickly surrounded the facility, restoring order after the group attacked staff. eleven others faced solitary confinement amid crowded cells.
Mrs Marveret Ellen Spencer born September 1 1864 died Sunday at her Russellville home after a seven week illness. Funeral set for Tuesday at 2 pm at Federated Church with burial in Russellville cemetery. Survived by husband George M Spencer two children Pearl Sturmeon and Archie Spencer. a son Claude Spencer preceded.
