SAY!- by Charles J. Arwold contemplates Christmas verse and inspiration as Greencastle youths perform a Music School program titled Fetlock in the Music School. The piece lists performers and numbers for a recital on a winter evening with various dances and melodies.
Governor Mary G remitted fines for two Greencastle men convicted in Putnam circuit court in March 1939 for contributing to the delinquency of a minor Franklin Risk. Howard had a 500 dollar fine remitted to 110 paid. Ash had a 150 dollar fine remitted to 50 paid. Remittance papers were sent to county clerk Ford Lucas by Frank Mayr, secretary of state.
Henry Riggle of Putnam county files for divorce in the circuit court alleging cruel and inhuman treatment by his wife Eula Riggle who left home in April 1929 and has not returned. The couple, married in September 1920, were separated in April 1920 with no children. Riggle, a laborer, asserts residency in Putnam county.
Gillen, Greencastle attorney and congressman elect, will be the principal speaker at Putnam Post No. 58 Legion public meeting in Fillmore School tonight at 7 20. Robert Hoffman reports a large attendance expected as ex-service members from Greencastle and vicinity gather at 8 45. The event kicks off an intensive county wide membership drive with the public invited.
Administrative offices announce a fifteen day Christmas recess for students. Final examinations begin January 22, with a two day Christmas break and a return date around January 5. Second semester starts February 2, with registration January 0 to 1.

The forecast calls for a low of 15 to 20 degrees with increasing clouds and warmer conditions into Wednesday.
Columbus Brown a longtime Brown's Valley resident died at his home Sunday night at 6 45. Heart trouble caused death at age 74. Born in Putnam county March 21 1851 he married Doraldo Herland November 5 1869. Survived by widow two daughters Mrs O G Kramer and Mrs Wilbur Branson two sons Tivey Brown and James M Brown four grandchildren. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 11 00 in Mt Moriah cemetery.
The Presbyterian church in Greencastle will host a Christmas Eve service at 7 40 PM featuring Morris Sf Pith's new book The snepnera of Jerusalem Read by Rev Victor Lo Raphael the event draws praise as among the best since Henry Van Dyke's The Other Wise Man The author is connected to Greencastle through his son-in-law Mrs Pronk Hays and studied at DePauw University.
Putnam Post 8 of the American Legion targets winter relief by employing unemployed ex service men. The group plans to form a Boy Scout troop, arrange a speech by the state president of the Auxiliary, and organize a countywide membership drive as community leaders coordinate efforts.
Four of five men entered the Citivene Bank in Clinton just after it opened. They forced five employees and a customer to lie down, fled after forging a check, and were believed to have stolen between $5,000 and $6,000. A tire blew on their car as they attempted to escape, hampering pursuit. Police reportedly trapped the suspects with a captive, not yet recovered.
A crowd of property owners and attorneys petitioned against a proposed square improvement at Greencastle city council. Mrs Park Dunbar hosts Mrs Otto Bartlett of Terre Haute visiting Miss Dagey.
Patton Gibson a farmer in Washington county was fatally shot at a neighbor’s home after being lured there by Mrs. Bell. John Spurlock is accused. Pleas Spurlock restrained Gibson during the shooting. Gibson owned about 1,000 acres in Othe sen and Monroe townships and died after being hit in the back with a shotgun. Both suspects fled to Steubsville with Mrs. Kyle Smith. no trace found.
County Superintendent Vermillion distributed mid year examination questions to public schools in Putnam County. Examinations are set to begin Wednesday and Thursday with Christmas vacation starting Friday December 1 and ending Monday December 2, giving pupils and teachers the full Christmas week.
Mahlon Fisher aged 61 was found dead in bed by his wife Mrs. Bleets Brow at 28 Martinsville Street this morning. Death appears due to heart disease. The funeral will be Thursday at 10 in the Christian Church with Rev. Benner officiating and burial in Stilesville Cemetery.

Paul Brown 28 former Purdue student shot his parents at the farm home four miles west of Nashville then set the house ablaze killing his mother and father while Chester Dunge survived. Brown’s motive linked to an overworked invention, authorities hunt for him with posses across Brown County.
Funeral service for Varie Smith 21 of Waveland was held at 10:00 AM at McCurry Funeral Home with Rev. Gill in charge. Burial followed in Cloverdale Cemetery. Smith died by self inflicted gunshot Saturday at his father James Smith's home near Fincastle. He had been living on Ollie Cope land farm southeast of Waveland with his wife and infant son. Also noted Mrs. Mary Martin of Washing Street is very ill at home.
