Lafayette Ind Aug 25 The Hessian fly damaged Indiana crops costing about 5 570 000 based on Purdue University soil and crops research. Experts advise late seeding of wheat after fly free dates to prevent losses, with recommendations varying by latitude and local conditions.
Thomas J Ford and others transfer Greencastle property to Eugene Borderland for 1100 dollars. Central Trust Co transfers to Phi Psi House in Greencastle. United States to Joseph Jackson and Monroe to Paul F Priest. Raymond Martin lands in Franklin transfer for 3000 dollars. Frank Edwards transfers Bainbridge properties to Harvey A Hall and to George W Stant for 80 and 55 dollars respectively.
Aug. 24 South Bend News Times announces subscription bumped to 20 cents weekly due to higher print costs. Single copies stay 3 cents, 10 cents on Sundays. Also, Montreal Gazette raises price to 5 cents with annual subscription at $12 starting Sept 1, 1920.
Witt Sutherlin and wife along with Clay Arkett and daughter were Sunday guests of Lafe McGaughey and family. S. R. Bales and wife, Floyd Bales, and Otho Bales with their spouses visited Milt Brown. Elmer Clodfelter and family spent the day at the Shades. Oscar Martin and family are visiting relatives in Ark County. Lee Sutherlin and wife were guests of Earl Sutherlin. Charles Moffett traveled to Indianapolis on business.
James Hollick aged 73, longtime Greencastle resident, died Tuesday night at Methodist Hospital Indianapolis after a long illness. He leaves a son Clarence Hollick and brother J. N. Hollick of Frankfort. Burial will be in Gosport beside his wife. services Friday at 1 pm in Greencastle. He served in the Civil War with the G A R and worked as a drag line operator before farming.
Four United States airplanes flown from Mineola New York to Nome Alaska arrived in Nome from Ruby at 5 30 yesterday afternoon. The actual flying time from New York was forty five hours Captain St Clair Street head of the expedition announced. The return hop off to New York will be made in a few days.
Liberty Connecticut? Misses and Mrs. travel from Cloverdale Indiana Tampa Florida Wheat field Indiana and Terre Haute to visit Mrs. Sarah Rader and family Sunday. Several pairs of relatives and friends gathered at O. L. Keiser and other homes for a Sunday visit and dinner.
Rev Bailey and William Stiles were in Brazil Tuesday evening. Mrs Ervin Delvin of Huntington visited her daughter Mrs Lloyd Stevens. Reverend W H Williams hosted visitors. several locals travelled to Greencastle and Anderson for gatherings. A basket dinner was held at the Methodist church. many names and commutes noted.
Putnam County stockholders in Consolidated Oil Co. travel by car to Princeton Indiana to inspect 1400 acres of leases and ten to twelve producing wells. The party includes Charley Hall and family Stroud Love Nelson Thomas O’Hair Ston er Houck Howlett Hillis Stoops and Abe Hillis with Lucille Aikens visiting from St Petersburg Florida.
The town schedules a telephone meeting at Brick Chapel on Tuesday and hopes for improved service. The Nelson reunion is planned for next Sunday in Somerset. Numerous local visits and kin connections are noted, including Miss Lilly Cully of Bainbridge visiting Ruth Wells, and Mr. and Mrs. Sherrill Reeves of Columbus Indiana staying with Herman Flint. The Eastern Star Lodge picnic grows with the O’Hair family hosting. The Brown family reunion at Roy Ferrand's home drew about sixty relatives. travel from Indianapolis Terre Haute Ladoga Bainbridge Puthanville and Reelsville was mentioned. Ben Pruitt moves to Bainbridge, Mrs Pratt is ill, and ladder accident injures Mark Woodworth.
After weeks of effort four of six council members attended a regular meeting on Tuesday night. The four honored for attendance were J. P. Allen Jr Roy Abrams Oscar Williams and Asa Smith. The mayor clerk city attorney and marshal were present as usual. The council passed a claim ordinance and adjourned with discussion of street repairs but no action due to the city treasury bankruptcy.
A Ford driven by Mr and Mrs William Neese from the Stoner farm near Hamrick Station and an Overland driven by a nameless stranger crashed head on on the Manhattan road four miles south of town. Both cars were badly damaged. The Neeses were en route to Greencastle to catch an interurban to Terre Haute due to a daughter’s illness. The stranger left his car at Greencastle and went to Terre Haute by traction car promising to return for his vehicle. Officers recovered the stranger’s license and car number after the wreck.
Hog prices in Indianapolis opened steady to 25 cents higher with hogs selling mostly from 15.60 to 15.75 for light hogs and 14.75 to 15.50 for others. Top price reached 15.70 as 8,500 hogs, 600 cattle and 900 calves were listed with layovers.

Major M. H. Shute who led the DePauw University ROTC for a year will stay at the university for at least another year. President George R. Grose traveled to Washington to lobby war department leaders to countermand a Fort Bliss Texas detail order. A telegram confirmed that Shute would remain at DePauw, following prior indications he would be reassigned.

Brother William Elmore is expected to be with the Church of Christ at Long Branch September 9 to 17. All are invited to come out and hear him. Rupert Wright visited his home after an extended stay in Terre Haute. John Gardner and wife were in Brazil visiting Vaughn Dickey family. The community threshing machine is active, with oats and wheat being processed. Sammy Dickey will attend school in Brazil after visiting grandparents. Walter Kirk is moving Jesse Ellis houses to new locations. Ross Thomas visits relatives. his wife’s health is improving. Mr and Mrs Thomas went to Colorado last spring for health reasons.
Roy Hood of the Government Printing Office in Washington visits his parents Mr and Mrs William Hood in Greencastle and returns from St Louis where he spent several days with his brother.
A telegram today announced the birth of a daughter named Alice Caroline to Mr. and Mrs. Clyde L. Randel of Terre Haute. Both mother and child are reported doing fine.
