Finger Prints Prove Little Help in High School Robbery

Marshall News Sold to Crawfordsville Man

Announcement yesterday says the Marshall News was sold to ELK C. Kyle of Crawfordsville. J. Vincent Cox reports full transfer of ownership. Kyle and his wife will publish both the Marshall News and the New Ross paper. Cox will remain briefly before entering DePauw University. Frederick Cox had run the paper for four years.

Sheriff Wifes Kidney Operation After Poison Meal

Mrs. Stephens wife of Monroe county sheriff Ray Stephens faces kidney surgery after illness from poisoned food. Indianapolis doctors advised the operation as she, four children and deputy Lester Bender were sickened weeks ago. Authorities believe a grudge against the officers led to the poisoning.

Delta Zeta House Remodel Planned on East Washington

Delta Zeta sorority will spend 40000 dollars to remodel and beautify its East Washington Street house, formerly the Ernest Browning residence. Plans, estimates, and financing are in place and work will begin immediately. The sorority moved from the property last year to the Towers on East Sminnery Street due to previous disrepair.

North Salem Man Arrested in Roachdale

Everett Sheets 25 of North Salem was arraigned in Greencastle city court on public intoxication after being arrested in Roachdale by Town Marshal Thomas Ashby. He pleaded not guilty and faces a trial set for Friday at 10. Bond is $500. he remains jailed for inability to post.

Bruner Family Returns From Vacation Trip

Rev. B. H. Bruner and family returned Wednesday evening from a two week trip. Bruner preached for August 10 to 17 at Independence Boulevard Christian church in Kansas City Missouri. He visited former longtime congregations in St Louis and Lexington Missouri. He will preach next Sunday and on August 31 at the Montgomery County Christian Churches meeting in Ladoga Indiana.

Farm Barn Fire Destroys Hay Livestock Near Bainbridge

Spontaneous combustion is blamed for a fire that leveled a large barn on John Huffman’s farm south of Bainbridge early Wednesday. Fifty tons of hay eight calves a saddle horse harness and machinery were burned. Avon Goodwin the tenant woke neighbors who saved the house but could not save the animals. Insurance covered the barn.

Corn yield in Putnam Co off fifty percent

Indiana Business Review reports July declines in industrial activity and employment across Indiana with early August signs of improvement. Greencastle notes wheat and oats good, corn about 50 percent of normal, drought damaging crops, canning pastures, and dairy output dipping. July retail trade down but some stores held steady.

The thirty eighth annual reunion of the descendants of Michael O’Hair was held at the O’Hair home. Andrew Huffman of Reelsville bought an EB M FB 30 automobile. The Enterprise store, run by Harry Goltberg for 18 years, will close Saturday. Postal workers of Putnam County will attend a picnic supper tonight at the A B Hanna store basement.

Five Indianapolis Men Arrested in Clay County Jail

Five Indianapolis men William Ford Frank Treuton William Reed Joe Troy and John Rockford were arrested by Brazil Indiana authorities after a high speed chase across Clay Putnam and Hendricks counties. They were found intoxicated in a stolen car reported by Dr K K Ballard and jailed in Clay county. Public intoxication charges are expected for all and vehicle taking charges for some.

Friends Pay Fine Youth Is Released

Roy Combe aged 19 formerly from northwest of Greencastle was sentenced in Greencastle city court to 30 days at Putnamville State Farm and fined 81 dollars for public intoxication and operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. He has now been released and moved to Tennessee. Dr. and Mrs. W M McGaughey and Miss Lela Walls return from Lake Winona after accompanying Mrs. Margaret Mathews who will stay two weeks.

Illinois Woman Injured in Auto Crash Near Paris

Mrs. Ella Clem of Paris Illinois suffered a broken nose when her car collided with a vehicle driven by Carl Johnson five miles west of town. Johnson did not see the oncoming car as he pulled from a farmhouse driveway. Four others in the Paris car were unharmed.

Chicken thieves shoot man in chest near Beck's Lake

Joseph Kovacs, 40, was recovering from a shotgun wound four days after thieves sprayed his western South Bend home with more than 100 shots. Found by his sister, Kovacs delayed medical help citing doctor fears. Relatives note he was released from Locansport State Hospital a year earlier and the assailants allegedly sought $2000 he possessed.

Fillmore Society Enjoys Picnic With West Newton Club

Fillmore Service Club members were entertained at a picnic dinner hosted by the Country Women's Service Club of West Newton at Tulip Grove. Numerous Fillmore residents attended including Mr. and Mrs. Ogle, Mr. and Mrs. Wright, and many others. Vietta Stites hosted the Doreas Class meeting with a social hour and refreshments after.
