Claude Simonds a Uranium area figure lives at Woodruff Springs thirty miles south of Hanksville with two horses two mules and a six week old Chesapeake retriever pup. He prospectes for uranium and promotes sales while sharing tall tales from a long life. He was born November 13 1900 in Jersey County and moved as a child to the Red River Valley. His camp is ringed by a cedar fence and fed by a spring. Miners bring water trucks to his site. He played baseball in Oklahoma Texas and New Mexico leagues before 1940, including a game in Bicknell.
