Traffic control revamp puts Green River station at 290 mile span
Denver and Rio Grande officials announce a new centralized traffic system affecting Green River, Utah, now a repeater station covering 290 miles from Helper to Grand Junction area, expanding the previous 135 mile control point. The Premium Oil Company bought land at the west end of town adjoining the old school building from Green River Development Co. Howard Silliman handled the deal for Green River, and Callister and Callister of Salt Lake City represented Premium Oil. The 300 by 400 foot plot will host a wholesale and retail service station with construction to start soon.

New Teacher And Enrollment Rise At Green River School
Green River school enrollment climbed from 242 last year to 275 this September, said principal Lee Gledhill. Third grade teacher will be Mrs Eva Killpack from Ferron Utah, currently delayed by a California trip. Mrs Gledhill will substitute. Killpack has also served as the Green River Journal correspondent in Ferron.

Accidents Claim Four Youths in San Juan County
San Juan County reports two traffic crashes within a week resulting in four youths dead. Nadeen Norton 16 Monticello died when her car overturned on Highway 47 south of Monticello. A separate head on collision near Price Hospital killed four Boy Scouts and injured fifteen. Drivers Don Rodabaugh 18 Salt Lake City and Lee Sougaard remained uninjured.

Ore Truck Falls Apart On Ramp Near Green River
A large semi-trailer ore truck owned by Kent Johnson of Green River collapsed on a railroad ramp one mile west of Green River around 9:30 PM on Monday September 5. About 22 tons of ore spilled over the area as the left side of the frame gave way and the trailer tipped. Driver Mark Simonds of Green River was uninjured. The truck likely cannot be reused.
