Woman 78 Year Old Hustler Takes Desert Land Near Grover
Mrs. Sarah Jane Olmstead of Grover pursues land claims to secure a rainy day. She recently traveled to Greeley for a 160 acre homestead and filed second and third proofs on another 160 acre desert claim after meeting irrigation and improvement requirements. Sequel to Land Controversy Ends in Shooting Near Greeley
In a rural dispute six miles west of Greeley on the old George Briggs place, W. B. Weatherford shot James Pyles in the back with a .38 revolver during a quarrel in a field. Weatherford, 26, married with six children, was jailed by Sheriff Florance after the incident. Pyles, about 50 and a bachelor, had previously sued Weatherford to dispossess him from a beer contract on the same farm. Weatherford claims he was attacked first and vowed to act again if provoked.
