Outlook Not So Bad for Northern Colorado Sheep Feeding
The district expects about 800000 head of sheep and lambs fed this season with strong prices. Lambs fetch $5 to $6.50 per 100 pounds and sheep range $2.50 to $3, supporting high profits. Beet pulp and tops bolster feeding, hay valued at five dollars a ton, and notable wealth has accrued to locals like State Senator Drake. Some fear prices may slump, while in the San Luis Valley field peas aid profits and hogs may supplant sheep there.
