The Aust harvest carnival attracted about 6000 people with 2000 cups of coffee served at the barbecue. Afternoon harness races featured Orange Hat and Lady Eaton taking wins, plus Corbett in the cow pony and relay events. Japs row cut entertainment as knives were used. Awards honored many stock and grain exhibits, art needlework, baby show, and a lively carnival ball.

Farmers’ coal mine to install electric hoist and dewater plant
The Farmers’ coal mine eight miles northeast of here will install an electric motor this week to hoist coal and to keep the mine dry. Horse power has been used previously for these tasks. Power provided by Northern Colorado Light Power Co. will extend a line to the George Jones ranch for electric lighting.

Auto Stuck on Plains Near Iowa Family Tragedy
T. G. Macy and H. E. Enatish returned at 1 o'clock this afternoon from an auto trip fifty miles northeast. Mr. Macy went to Vera Orton's death scene, a two year old child from Iowa who died without a doctor. The party became stuck in a mud hole during the return in darkness and spent the night on the prairie while a fire was kept burning and four horses pulled the auto free this morning.

Fire Bell Relocated to Temporary Back Lot
The old fire bell and tower were removed from City Hall after 1894 construction. Deteriorating timbers made the tower unsafe. The bell will sit behind the fire department temporarily and later move to a steel tower above the new fire department.

Bright boy runs away from Florence found by night officers
A clever under 14 year old named Guf ford Grady ran away from his Florence home. He was found Wednesday night on the street by night officers, identified after cross examination, and turned over to Marshal Williams. The boy was sent home with his father on the morning train after contact by Williams.
