A local dispute centers on a proposed depot improvement in Baton with factions resisting the plan. Citizens insist the new structure must meet higher class standards and adhere to published specifications, while media and other parties press for a complete redeployment of the project.
In Beton March 29 locals object to a proposed depot on a street crossing. They call the site arbitrary and unsafe within fire limits and demand a brick building. Residents criticize current waiting rooms and freight handling, urging the railroad to respect town rights and provide adequate passenger and freight facilities.
J Ishii sues O gamma in county court from Japan for recovery of a debt said to arise from labor performed and sixty five ant rice claimed by Ishii. The case outlines the creditor’s action and the defendant's location in Japan.
State Superintendent L M Harrison will attend a Denver conference of institute conductors instructors and superintendents. The gathering aims to improve time economy and methods across Colorado institutes with participants from Weld Otero Pueblo Denver Grand Junction Cripple Creek and other counties. A Thursday reception at the Capitol closes the event.
A. H. Kickoff and Harold Tinker and their wives of Denver were thrown into a ditch near Evans. Their automobile was badly damaged and they rode the train back to Denver while their chauffeur took the car home by slow stages.
Eaton high school students miss a week of spring vacation due to a late start. Grade pupils, however, enjoy a one week break.
LaSalle Ship LaSalle March 29 report J Hubbard shipped eight cars of sheep from LaSalle Monday. The consign ment was billed to Omaha but may be taken on to Chicago.
A flagpole in Greeley’s city park broke this morning due to prevailing high winds. No injuries are reported and crews will assess damage and restore the flag display.
Local report notes two quart buttermilk theft from Opera House Pharmacy Sunday night. Names implied but no concrete suspects. thieves drank large cans of buttermilk, leaving shelves otherwise untouched. Church group from Congregational church enjoyed stereopticon views and refreshments at Monday event.
The Greeley Arrow basketball team, led by captain Deane McCreery, posted thirteen games with only two losses. They defeated Fort Collins Y M C A 60 27 and Kansas City Tourists 56 27 among others, earned the state championship by beating the Colorado School of Mines by 15 points, and were praised for their skill and sportsmanship by manager Lloyd Neill.
Hardin March 29 One of the oldest school houses in this part of the county is being remodeled and enlarged to serve a growing pupil population in district No 94. The aging building sits on the S Sanford ranch as carpenters and lumber arrive to begin work after district splits shifted the boundaries between Weld and Morgan counties.
Ault March 29. Both the high school and grades observe a spring vacation this week. Miss Margaret Carlson has returned to her Denver home and Miss Iva Deane visits home folks near Greeley. Other teachers remain at Ault during the break.

Denver reports the Union Pacific is finishing the cut-off between Denver and Fort Morgan. The route will head east to Sable then northeast to Fort Morgan, shortening the Denver Chicago distance and favoring a level terrain for easier construction.
A Monday windstorm wrecked roofs and tore in plate glass across the city. Engleman and Meyers faced a roofless shop with drifting snow inside. Bird Brothers lost a large display window and east side damage was heaviest. Stockmen fear heavy losses as sheep and cattle drift in Grover and near Hardin. Eighteen cars of stock left Eaton and Ault districts recently.
The storm keeps rural carriers from Greeley and nearby towns. No accidents or major damage reported despite high winds. Stock suffer disruption as the weather continues to take its toll on livestock and farm operations.
Wind gusts cause George Cox to lose his hat near the post office as he watched it drift toward Union Pacific box cars toward Kersey. Miss Fannie Mayne also loses her spectacles to a strong breeze while near a building corner.
Milbank Sanitarium Association capitalized at 400000, composed of Chicago capitalists George Harman L H Young and Theodore Harmer, toured Greeley and Weld County seeking a site near mountains with possible water advantages. They returned uncertain about locating the sanitarium in this city.
Mr. Harman states southern Wyoming offers the best locations for a sanitarium. He notes Denver suburbs are desirable but overcrowded and Greeley has slim chances. After reviewing options in Chicago, he expects to select a Wyoming mountain town, preferring mountain proximity unless water advantages favor other sites.
Mr and Mrs Bruce G Eaton entertained about fifty friends at their home Saturday night in honor of A A Farland of New York. Farland, a banjo expert, gave an impromptu musical with solos by Mrs C F Shattuck and performances by visiting Delta Gamma girls. Farland was en route from the western coast to the east, visiting Plainfield New Jersey resident A W James and the Eatons.
In a Sunday baseball game at Kersey the Kersey second team lost 11 to 6 to the Kersey Cubs. Cubs secured a decisive win with strong batting and solid defense throughout the contest.
The lecture and stereopticon color photography show by artist photographer George F. Clifton scheduled for this evening in the Congregational church have been postponed. The date will be announced later. Clifton is in Greeley today and will return when a new date is set.
Kersey March 29. In spite of a heavy storm residents continue registering for the coming election. There will be only one ticket in the field this year.
Funeral services for Mrs Mary Stewart wife of Elmer Stewart will be held at 2 PM Wednesday at the family home. The casket will then be transported to El Paso Illinois for burial.
Beebe Draw defeated the Invincibles of Greeley 11 to 4 on the Evans diamond last Sunday. The game was well played from start to finish and a good crowd attended.
J J Purcell and B F Cottingham carried arica for bruises after a railing failure sent them into the excavation for a new theatre on Ninth street. They were badly bruised but not seriously hurt.
Elmer B Stewart a Greeley carpenter returned from work Monday to find his wife dead in the bathroom. The physician cites natural causes miscarditis as the cause and coroner Macy says no inquest is needed. The couple resided at 1012 Fifth Street with no children and funeral arrangements have not been made.
