Letters from commercial clubs and business chains flood Washington as Enos Mille collects messages from Colorado towns to press for a national park reserve. FP McCrery of the Green Commercial Club mails the plea, aiming to boost support and prompt action in D C.
At a March 7 meeting the Greeley Commercial Club resolved to support federal legislation creating Estes Park as a national park area of 42 by 24 miles with forest reserves. The club urged the United States government to maintain the land with hunting banned, fishing allowed, and to push development of highways and infrastructure to preserve mountains forests and natural beauty. O Russell presided, JF McCrery served as secretary.
CH. Durand of Fort Contes travels to Greeley today to visit friends.
Eaton March 15 J C Wright a Union Pacific conductor was brought before Police Magistrate Sheppard on a charge of holding a crossing too long during a busy hour. Wright was found guilty and fined ten dollars plus costs, paid by R J Elder local agent.
J. L. Jones led a group of companions toward Fort Russell in an automobile from Eaton on Sunday. The party has been returning gradually by train since, making the route home by rail the preferred option after the vehicle broke down about twelve miles from Cheyenne.
Mesdames W. B. Grant and A. B. Copeland hosted the Eaton Round Table at Grant's home to discuss Ireland and its place in Europe. The gathering included Irish songs and jokes during roll call. Also in Eaton, the infant daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roscoe Farr died Monday afternoon and funeral services were held today with community sympathy.
Raton records show the town board held its regular meeting on Monday night with routine business transacted as usual.
Treasurer Mr. Skinner the chief counsel Milliken vice president W F E Green and chief engineer Buck of the Denver Laramie and North Western road made a flying trip through Greeley Monday in their automobiles and they are now in the country about Severance and Wellington.
Three new stores open in Weld County with groceries sent from Hickman-Lambeck Co. One in Camfield by Minnie Dunn, another in Gill by D F McCoy, and a third in Barnesville by George O Miles. The establishment signals rising business activity across the county.
Washington reports Eld County released from quarantine by order of federal officials. Officials say eradication progress against sheep scab prompted lifting across most of Colorado except several counties and parts of others. The Bureau of Animal Industry credits state cooperation and stockmen support for the advance toward full eradication in the West within years.
Oscar Lofgren and Miss Nellie Anderson wed in Denver on Monday in a quiet ceremony. Frank Lofgren and Miss Edna Joyce followed the same day, surprising friends. The Lofgrens are from Greeley and jointly connected to the Guest Johnson ranch nearby.
The Chicago market this year set a peak price of 9.65 dollars per hundred for lambs, received by R. M. Haythorn of Eaton who sent six carloads totaling 1,500 lambs. Today fifty four carloads depart Greeley for the east, with thirty six from Windsor Timnath and nearby towns and eighteen from Eaton Ault and surrounding Union Sheep raisers communities.
Engineer W. H. Welsh returned from the Empire reservoir four miles southwest of Orchard with repairs costing over 50 000 dollars. Colorado Engineering and Construction company rebuilt the outlet tubes in iron and concrete. The reservoir in Bijou irrigation district holds 2 000 000 000 cubic feet and serves Green City and Orchard.
Prof H W Hochbaum and Miss Gertrude Schenck wed last Tuesday night at the bride’s parents home 3015 Lowell Boulevard Denver. The social event drew about 150 guests and included notables from Greeley such as Dr J A Weaver J C Kendel EB D Randolph and Ernest Harn.
The Congregational Brotherhood met at the church Monday evening with reports from the Lay Men’s Missionary convention in Denver. Speakers included Fred J. Allnutt D. D. Hugh F. P. Matthews and Rev. Frank Allen. Prof John T. Lister urged physical recreation for children and public playgrounds with plans for local school grounds. Supper was served and the session was unusually interesting.
La Salle March 15 One of the best attended sales in the county occurs at the ranch of 8 W Devinney county commissioner two miles south of La Salle. He disposes of his ranch and household goods by auction and moves to town. The lot sells well. Misses Hailey Laughlin visited Fort Collins schools and Miss Elis Loveland school. La Salle March 15 Teachers return from Fort Collins to find a piano installed in the school house as promised. Monday was visiting day and there was no school.
The Sterling Realty Co board awarded the excavation contract for the hotel and theater building to G. BE. Washburn. The bid covers excavation by the yard and is expected to total between $1,000 and $1,200.
Green City March 15 engineers from Union Pacific have been in the area over the past days. They expect the establishment of a new town at Sublette in the near future.

Windsor observes the fifty first wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Harris with a large gathering at their home. The couple, married in Canada, have lived in Windsor for thirty years and received many gifts from friends including Rev. C. M. Cooper and Mrs. Cooper and several Windsor residents.
A mother homesick for her three month old son had the child sent from Severance to St. Luke's hospital in Denver. Mrs. Titmus, hospitalized for treatment, will have the infant cared for in Denver for several days as doctors advised. The boy’s grandmother and sister accompanied him to Denver. In a separate note, four year old George Starbird of Greeley, visiting Denver, fell ill with scarlet fever and remains at Steel's hospital as his mother stays in Denver.
The 25 000 firemen strike by the Brotherhood of Locomotive Firemen could impact Greeley and Weld County. If the board insists on its demands, railroad officials fear disruptions to Burlington and Union Pacific lines, and the Denver Laramie route, bringing potentially dire local effects.
Denver Laramie official warns the strike may complicate road plans including Colorado & Southern from Greeley to Cheyenne. Union Pacific work between Dent and Fort Collins may not be affected. Chicago at midnight marks a 25 000 firemen walkout across western railroads with shift time to be announced tomorrow.

In Green City on March 15 a 14 year old, Carl Roberts, mistook a bottle of iodine for cough medicine during a lagrippe illness. He drank a large dose and became violently ill. Doctors from Orchard arrived, treated him with antidotes, and he recovered enough to avoid lasting harm as the Roberts family planned travel to Idaho.
