The Kreissler recital Thursday evening drew universal praise for performance and audience reaction. The Fortnightly club earned commendation for selecting top talent and delivering a concert that filled the opera house with attentive listeners and enthusiastic, lingering applause.
In a new phase of a water power dispute, Judge Siiatt Rogers and Judge George Rogers contest the Eastern Colorado Power Company Wolf Tongue Mining Company Hal Sayre and the Rocky Mountain National Bank of Central City. They argue that water belongs to the public under common law for flood or other flows and only water used for domestic and irrigation should be diverted. If upheld, mountains power operations may be forced out of business and millions invested in Pacific slope plants could be wasted.
Mrs. E B Sanborn invited a dozen ladies to her home for an afternoon sewing party to assist a deserving family expecting twins. Guests crafted garments for the newborns and the anxious mother Mrs John Stevenson received heartfelt thanks as the gathering concluded with a light repast.
Coroner Macy's inquest in Hager's death at Gree hospital after a ten day illness from suspected poisoning found Wylie of Loveland responsible. Testimony said Hager had worked at Firestone mine and hauled coal, with dispute over first weight. A later dispute over two horse stalls in the feed barn at the mine prompted the fatal blow with a pitchfork. Wylie accompanied Hilda and Mayme Wyatt to Denver for a week with relatives.
Fully $100000 was invested over the past year in developing a new coal field six to eight miles west of Fort Lupton. Money went into shaft sinking and development, not town establishment. Four new coal towns Dacona Fredericks Firestone and Evans are rising with about 1200 residents. Evans lacks a post office. others have post offices and schools are under construction as mining nears shipment.
Fred Payton, an operator at Joe Goshert’s moving picture show, saw a man in a long white night gown hobbling in the street with chains clattering on Saturday night. He reported the sight to Constable Roseman and Sheriff Florance, but no trace of the mysterious figure has been found.
Miss Amanda Carpenter and Miss Velma Paine organized a country ride and home gathering for Miss Bessie Blair. About thirty young friends attended as amusements included progressive conversation with swift pairings as hosts drew lots to assign escorts home and a repast was served.
Work on the Riverside ditch and reservoir advances well with about fifty miles of the ditch completed. It is expected water will run in the ditch next season. dam work is limited by severe frost though the basin already holds enough storage to irrigate a sizable area.
The Willow Creek Irrigation company builds a major oasis twelve miles west of Grover on the Burlington line. It plans 3,000 acres of farming with two reservoirs storing 200,000,000 cubic feet and ditches carrying 1,000 cubic feet per second inlet and 40 cfs outlet. The project uses a 190-ton dredge moved by a custom railway, supplying water to land 12 miles west of Grover and 20 miles east of Carr, with initial cultivation for stock feed and anticipated expansion in Laramie county.
D. Spicer, a young Minnesota attorney, has started stocking the 2000 acre Putnam tract near Hardin with Percheron mares and stallions and Hereford cattle. Two carloads were unloaded at Goodrich for breeding use, with 800 acres kept for personal operations and the remainder likely sold in small tracts. Greeley horse and stockmen praised the animals as among the finest seen in the region.
Plans filed in the state engineer's office detail a 55 mile long canal named the Laramie River and Lone Tree ditch. The project, projected to cost 1 500 000 dollars, is led by R Q Tenney of Fort Collins and aims to carry water for regional use.
A gasoline tank exploded in Sterling's round house last Friday evening replacing the regular motor. A portion of the building tore away and the nearby engine ignited. Matthews, a round house worker, had gasoline saturated clothing that ignited from a lantern. He rolled in blankets and was saved but badly burned and taken to a Denver hospital that night.
Madison Smith, age ninety three, celebrated his birthday last Monday at his son Pitts Smith and daughter in law EB KE Bakers home. He moved from Providence Rhode Island thirty seven years ago and later walked from LaSalle to Greeley. His wife died sixteen years ago and he remains unusually active despite recent health troubles.
The notice describes N. D. Bartholomew feeding 100 hogs with syrup from a Greeley sugar factory this winter. The pigs thrived but became coated with molasses and straw, making them look like hay stacks and prompting Bartholomew to seek a washing or shaping remedy before market. The Arrows defeated the local high school 50 to 37 after a rough Friday night game. Hall and Corner were disqualified for unsportsmanlike conduct but allowed to continue, and fans felt officials favored the Arrows though the scorebook shows more fouls on the Arrows.

The first 8x16 interior by 8x12 exterior unit fits seven, with folding furniture, two bunk types, a versatile dining and drafting table, and a two-layer ventilation system. Strong steel frame and railcar like bottom, with plans for lighter designs and portable horse and livestock buildings on camps.
Henry M. Williams, now financially secure, starts a year of travel. He may visit Europe and plans a lengthy stop in Chicago, where he once served on the police force during the great fire. He has settled his affairs to allow leaving them. He has spent over thirty years in Colorado and has not left the state until now.
Rev and Mrs R J Van Valkenburg observed their sixty fifth wedding anniversary at their home on Fourth street last Sunday in Greeley. Born in New York in 1823 they have three daughters and fourteen grandchildren with eight great grandchildren. He served as a Methodist minister for 59 years and held key posts in New York conferences before moving to Colorado and eventually to Greeley in 1904.
Mr and Mrs J C Wylie hosted a house party this week with guests including Mr and Mrs C Jump and Miss Jeanette Wylie of Denver Mr and L T Birkle Mr and Mrs Jank Wylie of Platteville Col Walker of Peckham Mrs Wylie hosted a dinner Tuesday in honor of visitors from Greeley Mr and Mrs D J March and Mr and Mrs B H Sloan. Miss Lillian Floyd traveled to Denver Saturday for a several days visit.
