Severe hail storm destroys barley crop near Brush

James Tuckerman received a letter from tenant F F A Rader describing a hail storm Monday that swept over Brush area. Hail as large as hen eggs flattened a waist high barley field, beating the crop into the ground after a promising season previously hindered by drought.

Greeley Reds shut out Greeley, H. College, and Sacred Heart College of Denver 6 to 0 at Island Grove Park Sunday. Masterful pitching by Cunningham and strong defense from Marsh and Riley highlighted the win. The scoring by inning showed Greeley with a 6 run output while H. College failed to cross the plate.

Reservoir repairs advance on Farr waterworks in Colorado

Damage to the Walter Farr reservoir on One creek eighteen miles northeast of Greeley by May floods is being repaired by Nolin and Marsh. Farr supervises remaining work. The private reservoir holds over 76 million cubic feet and can irrigate about 800 acres of Farr land in northern Colorado.

Parker Son Narrowly Escapes Drowning at Poudre

Tuesday afternoon Bruce Parker, eldest son of Mr and Mrs H D Parker, waded near the Oak Street bridge in the Poudre. He stepped into a deep hole and sank twice before companions’ cries drew Sidney Hallett who rescued him. He was not much the worse for the adventure.

In district court Judge Bennett granted a new trial Friday morning for Frank Dupree convicted of statutory assault. The ruling likely ends the case as a second trial seems unlikely to convict. Dupree remains on bond pending the new trial during this term of court.

Charles Hansen of The Tribune staff married Christina White in Kansas City yesterday. Christina White is the daughter of Mr and Mrs William White of 518 Howard Avenue. The couple plans a short honeymoon in Michigan before returning to Greeley to establish their home.

William Hamman Dies After Long Illness at Home

William Hamman, born April 30 1839 in Stark County Ohio, died at his home after weeks of Brights disease. He moved to Greeley in 1870 and run a Main street mercantile business. Survived by six of twelve siblings and wife Alta Kenyon, who remarried after his first wife’s 1896 death. His daughter Nellie predeceased him, a sorrow that affected him deeply.
