Greeley Colorado June 10 1885 notice noting sale of Ralph Meeker interest in Greeley Tristing and assumption of debt. Reports include Evans Fourth barbecue plans, social visits, wool shipment start, circus day reminder, weather impacts, real estate transfers, harvest notes, and a long list of arrivals at the Oasis with multiple travelers and residents.
In New Haven Connecticut on the 17th instant Mr Alfred T Bacon of Greeley Colorado wed Miss Mary Pritchard daughter of ex President Woolsey of Yale College. Bacon son of the late Dr Leonard Bacon of New Haven. He resides in Greeley after helping found the New England Live Stock Company. They expect to arrive in about two weeks to receive friends in Greeley.
Preparation is underway for the Fourth of July. Juveniles may attend a Seventy six style dance at Town Hall. Methodist Aid Society hosts a sociable at Stanton's Hall with afternoon and evening events. The Rev. Mr. Green to deliver farewell sermon next Sunday. Local construction projects advance as Coykendall boys and Wesley Johnson plan new houses. Business remains strong as residents anticipate holiday activity.
Windsor reports lively business with Hall & Teller and Edward & Hunt thriving supplying Eaton with meat. Harris hotel crowded. bass catch red hot, hundred in an hour. Atkinson of Denver sells lightning rods. Baldridge heads home to Sioux City. Strawberry sociable successful finances.
The program lists opening prayers, poems, music by the Greeley Glee Club and Cornet Band, multiple addresses on the Union Colony of Colorado, and a grand afternoon with baseball Berthoud vs Greeley, firemen races, fireworks, and a grand ball at Jackson's Opera House. James G Cooper sends a reflective letter from New York dated June 25 1885 praising early Union Colony pioneers.
The Sorcerer was staged Thursday and Friday at Jackson's Opera House. Despite poor attendance, the performance was well rendered and equal to any local effort, with leading roles strongly sustained. Performers who volunteer for town events deserve better recognition than a slight for the sake of a quarrel with the manager.
