Greeley items note Colonel White's improved post office, new election precinct, and plans for a skating rink at Hunter's hall. Reports cover wheat prices rising, Bishop Warren lectures, and local civic moves including library space for Hook and Ladder, theater events, and notable arrivals.
Mr Stewart avoids ties this season but plans to ship 50 000 props. Miss Annie Stanger daughter of Senator Stanger and a college student is confined to her room with pneumonia. A disease thought to be cholera has struck swine nearby. Evans Thoman Co killed 50 sick hogs this week and others report losses. Seventy seven students enrolled at the college this term from thirty three counties in Colorado and other states. Mr Cranson visiting from the mica diggings now works three claims. one lead eight feet wide. Wheat prices rise with 80 cents but offers of 87 cents for second class. Welch offers $1 per hundred in trade. Ex Senator Rhodes reemployed as attorney for the Colorado Cattle Growers Association for the year. Larimer county has one county pauper. He has been a county charge for over three years.
Letter urges Cache la Poudre Irrigation Company shareholders to attend the adjourned meeting on the 24th to ensure a legally elected board. It notes 1301 votes needed and that about a hundred more would suffice, citing 1800 shares issued and urging duty to avoid a chaotic management. Anthracite coal has been found near Cortland New York. Reported at the Windsor Hotel that local coal lodes have been known privately for two weeks and capital is forming to buy lands and start development. Dealers fear overstocking and price declines as new mines approach. The coal trusts reportedly push sales and demand large orders. The piece also notes Mrs Pennell, author on Mary Wollstonecraft, is related to Charles Godfrey Leland and known from Atlantic work. Little Joker is praised as a good smoking tobacco.
