The Greeley and Northern Railway and Utility company filed a deed of trust for record in the county clerk’s office securing bonds of 100000 for finishing the electric road from Greeley to Evans and toward Idaho Creek. Officials say the issue is temporary and will be refinanced later to reach Denver. Substantial bond subscriptions have been received. grading has halted pending legal matters. The grade from Sixteenth street in Greeley to Evans city limits is complete, awaiting ties and rails.

Big new company plans canal irrigation in the Arkansas Valley
A group led by A. E. Wilson and Thomas Herrington, consisting largely of St. Louis men, intends to revive the old State Canal irrigation project in the Arkansas valley to water about 100 000 acres. The state started the work over twenty years ago with convict labor, spending about $150 000, and the new firm argues the state has lost title to the property, as asserted in the Kansas Colorado water suit.

Pioneer farmer Mayfield dies near Fort Lupton at 74
E. Mayfield, a Weld county pioneer, legislator and longtime farmer who ran the Mayfield House landmark on the road to Central City, died at his home five miles NW of Fort Lupton after a month of illness. He leaves eight children and many grandchildren. His life spans Kentucky birth, Illinois farming, and Colorado hospitality before settling near Fort Lupton.

Judge Proposes Sunday School Sentence for Young Offenders
Judge John Nixon in county court last Friday sentenced Guthrie Earl to six months in the judge s Sunday school class with jail as alternative. Earl and Walter Samples, about 18, were charged with giving liquor to minors. Each was fined 5 and costs and Earl chose the Sunday school option after claiming he would not answer if he had ever drunk liquor before.

Wheel thefts link two local stealing cases
Raymond Wolfe’s wheel disappeared from the courthouse grounds last Thursday morning. A 19 year old man, Leroy Jones of Loveland, attempted to sell a boy’s wheel at Brown & Lucan in Platteville and ended up taking Brown’s wheel. Jones was jailed and sent to Greeley after charges for stealing Brown’s wheel, revealing Wolfe’s wheel as the other theft. Mrs. S. F. McCreery and daughters Virginia and Mildred returned from Fort Morgan.
