Mrs Mary L Edwards formerly of this city died in Mercy hospital Denver last week. The Denver Times recounted a long separation since ten years ago when she left Cicero Indiana for the west. She later joined her husband in Greeley and they planned a future together until her illness led to hospital care and death after six weeks.
H C Watson enjoyed a pleasant reunion Monday evening with Miss Vida Croly now Mrs Sidney, the daughter of Jennie June, whom he met in London in 1900. The two ladies renewed their long acquaintance after the play as Watson and Mrs Sidney shared luncheon with Mrs Croly’s daughter.
The Y M C A held the state convention in Greeley with nearly 300 delegates and notable figures from New York Japan and Colorado. C V Hibbard of Tokyo and A J Elliott led talks on evangelism and student life while Dr James M Gray offered Bible lectures. The event featured pledges, sectional discussions, a public banquet, and multiple Sunday services culminating in a world evangelization address by Hibbard.
Mr and Mrs C N Jackson and Judge and Mrs E C Smith entertained with two progressive dinners at the Jackson home. The Tuesday event featured seven courses, yellow and white decor and daffodils and freesias with 30 guests and 500 as the card game. J H Woolf and Mrs George Robie won. Wednesday drew 40 guests with Dr Frank Dille and Mrs R C Watson winning in 500. both affairs described as the season’s most elaborate social events in Greeley.
Freshmen from the high school held a party Friday evening at Miss Mary Park’s home with about sixty attendees. Games entertained the crowd while juniors schemed to guard refreshments, but the event concluded with the freshmen enjoying ice cream.
Robert Harris a Windsor trapper and hotel builder aged nearly 80 is dying at his home from nervous shock after his left foot was amputated. A Canadian immigrant he came to northern Colorado over a quarter century ago and built a Windsor hotel used by stockmen. He trapped around the marshes until last fall and suffered foot frostbite years ago followed by blood poisoning necessitating the two amputations.
O H Gregory and George J Moore two insurance solicitors were acquitted in district court last Saturday night charged with obtaining money under false pretenses by selling life insurance to farmers near Ault not as represented The dispute centered on a twenty year endowment policy versus a twenty year payment life policy Farmers claimed they believed they were buying the policy they wanted The case was brought under the new insurance law with Assistant Attorney General Johnson present and H N Haynes defending
Senator James W. McCreery and Superintendent Charles E. Carter spoke at the corner stone laying for the new public library. Mayor Green lowered a copper box with a Greeley Tribune edition and library board lists into the cornerstone as city officials and trustees witnessed the event.
