Taxpayers vented frustration over four costly extras added to levies this year totaling 28 000 dollars for city projects and school improvements. North Poudre Irrigation company builds Halligan reservoir on the north fork of the Poudre river about 35 miles northwest of Fort Collins. The masonry dam spans a rocky canyon at the upper end of an 11 mile long gorge and will initially hold 140 million cubic feet, with capacity to reach nearly 1 billion cubic feet in the future.
Frank Young handles a large scale tomato project growing 1,500,000 plants in hot beds at Longmont and moving them to his gardens northwest of town to harden before field planting. The eight acre bed will be canvas covered each night to protect from frost, supplying about 600 acres of eventual plantings. Contracts already cover peas cabbage and tomatoes, totaling just over 1,000 acres for the first season.
Mesdanes W. B. Kinsella W. EK. Lester and H. B. Martyn entertained the ladies of the Afternoon Bridge Whist club and their husbands last Friday at Kinsella's home. Attendees included Dr. and Mrs. W. H. Wood and several listed members and outside guests. Refreshments were served late in the evening.
Dr and Mrs Frank Dille hosted the Duplicate Whist club last Thursday with eight couples attending. Four guests joined the members Mr and Mrs C N Jackson Paul Mosher and Harry McAfee. A late repast was served by the hostess.
The first state convention of the Young Men’s Christian Association in Greeley begins this evening. Speakers arrive from across the country and even Japan for a three day program with hundreds of delegates. The schedule includes services, Bible studies, and evangelistic discussions at Methodist and United Presbyterian churches, plus a complimentary banquet at the Camfield Hotel.

A Rocky Mountain News report asserts Burlington intends a Greeley Idaho Creek line feeding into Burns Junction and Denver, creating a Denver to Greeley direct link. It claims land purchases in Greeley and plans to extend toward Fort Collins Loveland and Lyons, enabling cheaper livestock shipment to Chicago.
About seventy women gathered at 612 Thirteenth Street for a luncheon and birthday celebration honoring Mrs. E N Smith. Friends from the Baptist church and W. G. U., neighbors, and out of town guests shared stories, gifts, and a splendid repast as memories were made of the longtime Greeley resident.
C W Beer replies to last week Tribune piece about a dispute with Joe Goshert over moving picture business. He says he never intended to operate a show and that the condemned building lacked required stairways and exits. Any future show would require proper exits and Beer and Thomas would only be owners, not participants in the show.
Miss Laura Cameron arranged a pleasant surprise at her parents home for her mother Mrs J M Cameron. The birthday dinner featured music by Corrine Carson and Captain Tracy Truby with guests including Mr and Mrs O N Stone of Lansing and Mrs Nora Carson and daughter Corrine of Vandergrift.
Engineer D Page surveyed a project for Greeley and Kersey men to extend the Union ditch about twenty miles. The plan aims to reclaim roughly 10 000 acres south of Kersey with a light cost, funded by the proposed company. Water supply from the Union ditch and reservoir is sufficient, and construction is expected this coming summer.
The Presbyterian choir held a surprise birthday party for Misses Ethel and Lora Wright at Dr. W. O. Wrights home after a Thursday rehearsal. Twenty five young people attended as games, a short rehearsal, and refreshments followed the celebration of Lora's Tuesday and Ethel's Thursday birthdays.
Miss Olive Buboup of Windsor spent Saturday in Greeley, enjoying a day away from home and visiting friends and local sights during a weekend outing.
The St. Peter's choir showcases the old masters with a Sunday 11 o clock high mass and a 7:30 evening sermon. The leader Prof Kendel has brought New York ideas to the program. Father Casey will preach on Marriage and the evening sermon is The Home.
J. E. Coleman travels to British Columbia to learn about his father G. W. Coleman's murder near Kamlocks 800 miles from Edmondson. Edmondson telegram yields no details. Elder Coleman location 800 miles from a railroad. messenger took weeks to reach the nearest telegraph station. J. K. Coleman runs a billiard hall at Seventh Street and Highth Avenue.
Robbers broke into the Davis jewelry store in Ault last week, entering from the rear after cutting a pane of glass. They stole about $2,000 in watches and jewelry while the owner was away at a lecture in the city. Mr. Davis and his family occupy the back part of the store.
A letter from L. S. Barger of LaSalle Colorado urges stopping gossip about a Beebe Draw school teacher who allegedly carried scarlet fever home from Gilcrest and possibly to a neighbor, resulting in a child’s death. He says if talk proves true the teacher deserves punishment and vows to bring evidence to authorities, but until then asks for restraint.
Mr and Mrs J A Taylor entertained the Independent Sixteen card club last Thursday. Members included Eugene Williams D E Gray J D Potter D R Smith W J Rowe W C Levis with guests Mr and Mrs Charles Couzens. Mrs Taylor and two daughters Frieda and Alice served refreshments. Mr and Mrs Frank Adams and their son left for their former home in Dayton.
Mrs A B Webster and her daughter departed last Tuesday for San Diego California to spend the winter season away from home.
