City Council Debates Traffic, Health Rules and Ward Changes

City council last night debated an ordinance restricting traffic of hay and cattle in a restricted district. A health code ordinance drew discussion and may receive first reading next meeting. Ward lines are to be realigned to match precinct boundaries and a ditch project near Twelfth Street Crowning was approved for mayoral execution.

Denver February 1 Special to the Tribune Greeley dominates the legislature as Senator McCreery receives the complimentary vote of the Republicans with 30 ballots cast for him Speaker Speer earns 27 votes and Adama 20 while Catherine Cook the lone female nominee fails to receive a vote in today’s noon ballot Minor shifts occur among other candidates in the standing Dawson Maupin and Ward appear with single votes

Attorney Nixon Recovers Purse After Robbery

Nixon, a young attorney, was robbed of 8.50 in cash and a fold watch. He later received his purse and watch fob by mail, postmarked Denver. Sheriff McAtee pursues pawnshop checks to locate the stolen timepiece. The robbers gave no explanation for returning part of the loot.

Epidemic of Grip and Pneumonia Sweeps County

County physicians are puzzled by an outbreak of grip followed by pneumonia, possibly tied to recent warm weather. Reports nationwide note severe grip and fatal pneumonia in some cases. In Greeley many suffer mild grip, with some not seeking medical care. Denver reports 23,000 cases.

Denver Laramie line study may reroute to Seeley Lake

Denver Laramie and Northwestern officers say they may alter the grade north of the city to pass Seeley Lake or run a spur to the lake if the grade is not changed. Promoters of the lake resort plan motor service, boats, baths, fishing, a pavilion, refreshment stands and restrooms to attract visitors. The project aims to make Seeley Lake a popular county picnic and summer destination with auto facilities for parties.

Milliken to Have Canning Factory

Milliken is to get a tomato canning factory in the near future if plans by an eastern canning company proceed. A Chicago representative and 8 K Martin of Denver Laramie were in town reviewing the site. The plant would cost about 8000 dollars and be built by the eastern company without local funding, with farmers to be consulted before steps are taken.

New Travelogue Series Opens in Greeley at Methodist Church

Hydrographic Survey Sought for Weld County by Commercial Club

Weld County may obtain a hydrographic survey through the United States Geological Survey to map underground water in the county. A petition organized by J L Timmons aims to gather 600 names, with about 300 already collected, to begin work by April and have results by fall.

Clayton Named State Superintendent of Insurance

W. L. Clayton of Greeley, a former state senator, was confirmed in an executive session as state superintendent of insurance by a unanimous vote. Opponents from the so called machine attempted to block the appointment but failed as Clayton defended his case and the appointment passed.

Ault Woman Charlies Collins Ill With Heart Trouble

Mrs. Charlies Collins of Ault is seriously ill at home with heart trouble and is thought to be showing slight improvement today. Mr. and Mrs. Collins were early settlers in Ault. Mr. and Mrs. Robert Moodie arrived from Denver for a short visit with friends.

Stories For Tots Again On Friday

Friday afternoon at the high school auditorium Miss Rowena Williams will tell American Indian Fairy Tales to children. Farmers Aid Delta Road Construction South of First Avenue

Farmers in the Delta assist the road crew by grading and hard surfacing a two mile stretch south of the sugar factory. Volunteers from nearby farms aid after grading, applying white clay from the No. 3 ditch cut to form a hard dirt road expected to ease crop deliveries.

Albert D Preston Union Colonist Dies After Illness

Albert D Preston a member of the Union Colonists died Tuesday at his West Eighth street home after several months of ill health. He was born in 1840 in New York and came to Greeley with the colonists in 1870. He is survived by his wife two sons Floyd and Cecil a daughter Rowena and a step daughter Lizzie Gabbett. Funeral services were held at Macy's parlors conducted by Rev M R Kerr.

Gill Club Wins Honors In Shoot

Gill Gun club carried off honors at a Tuesday shoot between the Gill and Kersey Gun clubs in Kersey Kersey. James Wood was high for Gill and A M Henderson led Kersey. A follow up shoot is planned for February 10 at Gill with the loser hosting another oyster supper.

Grover farmers organize cooperative store and club

A large gathering at the Grover opera house formed a cooperative store group. $900 was subscribed, a board of directors was chosen, and incorporation papers were sent to the secretary of state. The group will meet biweekly as a farmers club with dry farming lectures and link with Keota for speaker travel savings.

Robbery at Fezer Drug Store June 8

Burglars damaged the Fezer drug store on Eighth Street with a crow bar and forced entry about 4 am. They took razors soap and small toiletries after failing to open the safe, drank soda water, and left the outer safe door open. Police found the crow bar and suspect amateur floaters rather than skilled burglars.

Five on Trial Charged With Selling Booze
