Fire at Red Front store nearly destroys building
Rocho's Red Front department store faced a severe blaze last Wednesday evening. Two Majestic theatre employees Eugene Thompson and Roy Goodsell rushed in to smother the flames with quilts and dry goods, staying to fight the fire until relief arrived, suffering burns but preventing wider damage. The incident recalls earlier fires on similar dates, including a clerk’s death eight years ago. Separately, Walter Noble of Windsor secured a Christmas wedding license in Greeley and was injured in an Odd Fellows hall gasoline lighting plane explosion, narrowly saving his sight as flames erupted in a small room near the light plant.

Sheep business in northern Colorado noted by agent
Warren McCord traveling freight agent for the Chicago and Northwest railroad spoke in Greeley last Friday on the sheep industry in northern Colorado. He said the total number of sheep in the area would run about 20,000 to 25,000, with most in Weld and Larimer counties. Feeding near Jacales and Eaton is about half last year, while business here is not yet as developed as Fort Collins nearby. Manure from the flocks provides value and is in demand for hay regions.
