Colorado Immigrants Reach 45000 Mark Since January 1907
Denver Republican reports that about 45 000 people have settled in Colorado since Jan 1 1907. Railroad data from the Denver Rio Grande system estimate 4 500 new residents along that line and extrapolate to 36 000 from seven rail systems plus 4 500 from the Rio Grande. Including tourists who stay, total reaches about 45 000 with growth expected through year end.

New Manse on Fire at First Presbyterian Parish
Fire at about 1 o'clock Thursday morning caused at least 500 in damage to the new parsonage of the First Presbyterian church. Live coals from the fireplace ignited kindling in the ashpit and spread into walls before the blaze was fully controlled. Rev. R J Hunter and family were awakened by smoke and a quick alarm. The fire department responded promptly and limited water use saved furnishings. The fire proved hard to extinguish as flames rekindled after initial suppression.

Charity of Schools Helps Needy With Food and Clothes
Normal and city school students donated four dray loads of food and clothing for Thanksgiving. About 100 people benefited as P. A. Tisdei distributed items gathered since four years ago by Mr. Tisdale who started the charity. The collection included 175 glasses of preserved fruits and jellies, vegetables, potatoes, pumpkins, onions, turkeys, and other goods delivered by a drag deliverer.

Swedish ranch hand dies after mistaking carbolic acid for whiskey
John Bergstrom a 43 year old Swedish ranch hand on the P W Johnson ranch near Ault swallowed carbolic acid when he mistook it for whiskey. He died about a half hour later after medical help failed. The bottle was stored on a pantry shelf with a bottle of liquor and belonged to Mr Johnson used for treating horse sores. Bergstrom was in Evans before Thanksgiving and had taken the liquor home. Coroner Macy had the remains in Greeley. Mrs Probert and daughter Anna visited from Erie. Miss Hattie Probert returned home.
