The contest for county offices promises a lively race. For County Clerk the candidates are James B. Phillips, Deputy Clerk for six years, and FE H. Abbott, who has been Station Agent in Greeley since settlement. For Treasurer the names mentioned are Charles H. Wheeler of Greeley, H C Sherman of Evans, and Captain Kram of Brush. Sheriff contenders include J C Kendel the incumbent, L B Willard the current Deputy, 8 Hoffsmith of Evans, A A Smith of Merino, and O P Gale. Assessor candidates not yet learned but likely include incumbent Torrens, with 8 S McCreery and George Statler mentioned.
Hall and Teller have lumber ready for the elevator construction. Mr. A. Y. Summers rents Mrs. Cunningham's house and plans to start a boot and shoe business. Mrs. Harris and daughter spend two weeks in the mountains. Mr. Harris sells his thoroughbred Belle of Windsor to Fisk and French for $40.
A mass meeting of property owners in Greeley will be held at the Court House on Saturday evening August 29 to consider drainage and sewerage for the town and to instruct the Board of Town Trustees. GEO H. WEST mayor. Greeley Aug 24 1885.
