Weld County News: fairs, markets, and local notes

Wheat at 1.50, potatoes 1.00 per hundred. Weld County Fair begins Sept 20. Lots of farming, livestock, and fishing notes. Church services, schoolhouse builds, and town travel feature: Greeley, Boulder, Estes Park, Fort Collins, and Cheyenne connections.

The printers of Greeley challenge the clerks to a friendly baseball game at the Greeley ball grounds on Monday August 31 1885. Special cor respondent from Platteville reports weather and local happenings.

Drainage petition prompts special meeting of town board

About one hundred ten signatures urged the town to study drainage. The board will investigate the issue during the week and hold a special meeting Saturday evening to decide on actions. The Electric Light Company and the Carbonous Oxide Illuminating Gas Company sought charters. Walter C. Crown's bond as deputy marshal and night watchman was approved. An ordinance licensing vehicles was repealed. The artesian well railing area was found unsafe and will be removed. A. Mc Cleod sought bond reduction for billiard saloons from 25 000 to 3 500. petition denied. A A Howard’s street grass-cutting bill was rejected for unsatisfactory work.

Reduced Rates to the Tournament

Chief Moorehead has received a letter from Gen l Pass Agt Ady of the U P road making the following rates for our tournament for firemen in uniform two thirds of one fare for participants. For other parties one and one fifth fare is ten or more go from one point and where twenty five or more go one fare. Boulder Herald.
