Fire at Greeley sugar factory coal pile burns for week
A 4000 ton coal pile at the Greeley sugar factory has burned for a week despite efforts to extinguish it. Workers spread coal on a vacant lot while a large force uses water to smother the flames as the surplus supply for the upcoming campaign may be at risk. Last year a similar spontaneous blaze damaged coal reserves.

Fred Webber, among alleged chicken thieves captured in Denver last week, escaped from Deputy Sheriff D F Camp Wednesday afternoon while being transported toward the west end of the county. The escape occurred as Camp briefly interviewed house occupants, leaving Webber and his son in a buggy. Webber seized the reins and fled. the Loveland livery team was found next morning, but Webber remains at large.

The Peralta team returned Saturday morning from a Nebraska trip that yielded five wins and five losses. A Denver opponent, possibly Drey fuss, will visit Sunday with a strong game expected. a week later the Cottrells return. A pitcher from Kearney will join the box for the Cottrell game. Uncle Sam’s Uintah lands prize drawings awarded Oliver Howard, Albert Mason, Charley Bailey, and Ray Daniels among others. The Colorado Starch plant north of town sold to W D Bothwell, with local investors Dr S R Oppenheim and W L Clayton involved. Dr Oppenheim will soon head to Sugar City to supervise a sugar factory night shift. The starch plant is being overhauled with settling vats replacing centrifugals, valued around 20000.

Night Watchmen Hear Three Hobos Caught With Stolen Goods
Night watchmen Roseman and Waite stopped three men named Thomas Ryan D W Comer and Jack Harris near Model Mills during a midnight round. They were jailed after being found with merchandise believed stolen from a freight train that had passed. A later check showed the train was only a gravel train and a depot car had been broken into.
