Pate Thorildsken a 20 year old bus boy at the Camfield Hotel swallowed half a can of lye Monday after a waitress he loved went walking with another man. A physician was summoned, an emetic given, and he was reported out of danger the next morning.
Thorildeken, a diligent young Dane in Greeley, has earned praise from his employers for hard work and reliability. Although hotel staff noted a friendly bond with a local girl, he did not discuss any alleged self harm incident the morning it occurred.
Judge J G Irwin of Jerseyville and family stayed at McKinneys and moved to Kates Park until month’s start. Helen McKinneys joined later. Mrs McKinney to come next week. Judge Irwin serves as police magistrate. Wm M Munce of Windsor and Flora Haskins of Loveland wed at Baptist parsonage with R A Orton and the bride’s sister attending. The bridal party drew attention as rice shower drifted over Main Street.
Mrs Clara Clark, who had been visiting her son in Durango, will return home tonight. The noted traveler is expected to arrive by train and will be received by family members at the station.
Greleey's spotters Owens and LaDuke, arrested in Greeley on Denver orders for passing bad checks, asked Sheriff Florance’s office for the $480 they claim is due for services. Denver officials warn more checks may be coming and a groceryman has a large debt against them. records show multiple bad checks in Denver, with further disclosures expected soon.
Special to the Tribune reports that if Detectives J. C. Owens and H. A. LaDuke return to Evans they will not be welcomed. Locals are certain they tried to implicate prominent men here on gambling and bootlegging charges, as they did in Greeley.
Report states the Denver Laramie party is grading at Virginia Dale above Wellington as part of the Laramie Poudre project. Survey stakes are being set and a new road is planned to begin construction at the earliest date.
All night rain Thursday and more showers Friday bring relief to Green City. Dry farms show corn near failure with brown stalks while alfalfa benefits where water has been used. Vernon McKelvey and family and Mrs Ringle depart by auto for a weeks stay at Estes Park.
R. IL. Orr leaves tomorrow to return his family from Glen Haven where they have spent most of the summer at the resort.
A committee of J. B. Neill Robert Steele and W. R. Dedrick of the Greeley Loveland company was appointed to investigate buying a portion of Boyd lake water. They will report to stockholders at the meeting set for next Saturday with a vote at 10 oclock August 18 in the council chamber. Previously 100 stockholders met at city hall and decided not to purchase the entire lake, favoring a partial purchase while noting the company is already in debt and recent rains have eased farmers burdens.
Tekes led a two day 350 mile inspection from Greeley to the Laramie Poudre tunnel with executives Farson Montfort Ewing Hedke Hansen and engineers noting rapid progress. The 75 man team observed three shifts drilling about twelve feet daily and planned to report first hand on the work.
New York August 9. J J Gallagher claims Mayor William Gaynor took him from the police force through influence and attempted to kill Gaynor as he and his family prepared to sail for Europe. Gallagher shot Gaynor in the back of the head but Gaynor wrestled him down and held him until police arrived. The condition of Gaynor is described as serious.
Mrs B G Godfrey has a fine new eas range showcased at home. The feature highlights her kitchen upgrade and the appliance’s value to domestic life.
Thomas A. Cavanaugh, Weld county delegate, attended the National Association of Deaf Mutes convention in Colorado Springs where about 1000 deaf mutes gathered to raise funds for the home for the mutes. He was appointed county collector and aims to fund the cause and support rural deaf residents.
Special to the Tribune reports multiple towns from Eaton to LaSalle noting overnight rains. Farmers in Windsor and Kersey welcomed the showers, threshing delays aside, with wheat and potatoes showing improved prospects and beets looking better than expected.
Chicken fanciers form the Weld County Poultry and Pet Stock association with fifty members attending the Monday meeting. Officers include President A E Beardsley and Treasurer J B Phillips. The group plans a January show and aims for at least 200 members from Weld County and surrounding districts.
Briggsdale welcomes a new post office as Mrs. W F Bird received her Washington commission on Saturday and mail will operate via AT P on every second day. Mr. Bird and family relocate from Greeley and will run a livery business from a newly built barn and cottage. A local grocery store opened last week, aiding homesteaders between Crow Creek and Grover who previously traveled up to thirty miles for mail.
Miss Maude Waltmire of Raymore Missouri arrived in Greeley for an extended visit with her cousin Mrs J J Domke at 1412 Eighth Avenue. Miss Iva Giles, cousin of Mrs Domke, came from Green Valley Illinois for a several week stay at the Domke home.
J A Barker of the William Sutter threshing crew was crushed when a 6,000 pound water wagon passed over him on the Ogilvie ranch northeast of Kersey. He suffered a broken right leg below the hip and severe bruising before being moved to Greeley hospital. Doctors Spaulding and Church set the fracture. condition reported stable.
Parker, driver of the water wagon, toppled when an engine whistle blew. His team reared and he fell under the wagon wheels. He was moved to Greeley after Dr. Spaulding treated a severe fracture.
Charles Arnold alias Charles Allen was arrested in Telluride on a bigamy charge. Jessie Gates says she married him as Allen in Denver three years ago, and Edna Cobb was later wed under the name Arnold. Sheriff Ben Florance pursued Arnold for months after the first wife discovered the second marriage.
D. McArthur and Charles Davis traveled to Denver this morning.
G L Taylor of Rocky Ford narrowly escaped death when boarding a moving train at the station. His coat caught on a brass bar, throwing him under the coach as the train gained speed. He pulled free, losing part of his right heel shoe. his satchel was sent back to LaSalle, and he planned to board before the train started next time.
