A. F. Vick Roy of the Union Pacific apologizes to Mart Briggs Evans prohibition leader after a store search over grain doors. He states the railroad acted on information from outside sources and the search caused inconvenience.
The notice in Roans on Aug 2 reports excerpts from a letter by A F Vickroy Superintendent. It apologizes for on site examination and notes finding worn material of little value amid inquiry into property on premises.
George W. Arney real estate agent was arrested yesterday on bootlegging charges and found not guilty in police court. The case cited alleged soliciting for more houses in the city and suggests additional arrests may follow on related charges.
Officials of the county fair intend to interest all farmers by a meeting and the secretary is working to ensure every farmer in the county is represented by a small exhibit.
John Waterworth a speaker for the Rocky Mountain Underwriters' association wed Miss Mary Gregory yesterday in Denver. Rev. J. J. Lace officiated. Gregory was employed in the Underwriters' Denver office.
C L Fitch potato specialist from the Agricultural college visited Greeley en route to the San Luis Valley to study potato culture. He notes San Luis Valley spuds surpass northern Colorado this year as late crops grow large while local Pearls bloom there unlike here, enabling potential Pearl hybrids for a new variety.
The July drilling record for the Laramie Poudre tunnel stands at 814 feet. The project progress shows 4,000 feet advanced on one end and 2,080 feet on the opposite side.
L B Carter of a mile and a half north of Greeley says he has grown the record beet measuring 47 inches long. He believes the former record was 36 inches and notes no others have surpassed his carrot yet.
The suit by John W. Hoback to halt the $7,500 Hudson School No. 80 building was denied. The district argued land title and contract legality, teachers are hired, pupils ready to enroll, and moving the school to Tonville would force students through snow and wildlife hazards. Judge Gartigues allowed work to continue with rapidity.
George Thomas, a young man living southwest of Ault, suffered a broken jaw and serious bruises when his mustang threw him while he tried to coax the animal toward a street car in Greeley. The accident occurred at Seventh street and Ninth avenue. the horse was captured hours later. Thomas planned to break the horse to cars but intends a different approach next ride.

George L. Hale, 28, came to Greeley five years ago with his wife who left for Ohio to work and support him. Now Hale is said to be cured of consumption and will return to Ohio while his wife comes to Colorado to regain her health, having overworked for his sake.
Greeley prepares for two games weekly with Thursday and Sunday matchups. Hofbrau of Denver visits next Sunday for the second-season game after a decisive win by Greeley in Cheyenne. Cheyenne’s team is also due in Greeley a week from next Thursday for another contentious encounter.
Fort Collins Colorado day observed by the Daughters of the American Revolution unveil a monument between Bellvue and Bing ham Hill to honor the 1838 cache of powder by French trappers supplied by American Fur. Antone Janiece first settler of the Poudre valley and other early pioneers are named among those settling the area.
Milliken, Colorado, expands with ninety houses and about thirty businesses as a new town near Greeley. A 14 000 dollar bank building, a 12 000 bag elevator, artesian wells supplying piped water, and plans for a pickle factory underline its push toward incorporation and commercial development.
A new mechanic's lien for 4000 dollars is filed by Noble Armstrong against Kenefick Quigley and Russell and the Denver Reservoir and Irrigation Company. Foreclosure actions are planned against the Sperrato and Platteville ditches, property of the Denver firm. Armstrong worked as a sub contractor for Kenefick and is now in Pueblo on railroad construction.
Henry L. Huston of central Idaho, visiting Greeley on business, says the Idaho potato crop will reach ten per cent in his district this season and the state will likely reach about eighty per cent of a perfect crop. He notes eastern Idaho has poor harvests in parts, affecting the overall average.
Harold Hilton reports he has finished work on more than half of Weld County after reviewing 1 836 sections. The covered area exceeds 1 250 000 acres and he notes crops statewide are generally in good shape. His route spans the northern Weld region.
J. Allen of Farmers Bank of Windsor and John McLain, a Windsor farmer, were arrested at the Bank of Holyoke on blackmail allegations. They allegedly sent threatening letters to bank officials over Phillips County land. The detainees claim a blackmail case against the bank. A Poudre Valley Reservoir and Irrigation Co directors meeting was held, with only routine business discussed.
Henry L. Morrisey of Pueblo in Greeley plans to buy 300 acres in western Weld County and start a major berry operation next year. He has spent years in berry farming across Colorado and the eastern states, believing Weld County ideal for berries. Morrisey has also bought 300 acres in Routt County to grow strawberries for the late market.
Mr. Morrissey owns farms in California one in Illinois and two in this state He will live with his family on his Weld county farm.
Ault plans a state class boxing smoker to close the carnival on September 23 at the armory. Denver and Cheyenne fighters will headline the card with other sports stunts as downtown business leaders organize the event.
Evans on August 2 reports the Hallet Henderson Drug Company store sold to Henry Foss who has served as manager. Foss is well liked and anticipated to greatly succeed in running the business.
Eaton on August 2 reports E. S. Goodrich has resigned as manager of the Potato Growers company. F. P. Massey, previously cashier at the depot, has accepted the position and will take over duties.
Marshal F. M. Fenley travels to Denver this morning. Prof. F. L. Abbott of the Normal leaves Saturday for Idaho to conduct land investigations. Prof. E. A. Cross, with his son and wife, heads to Hotchkiss for Colorado Land and Orchard Co business.
John J. Randall formerly with Kansas City water office says Greeley’s water is among the purest in Colorado and the country. He notes mountains towns often have polluted supplies due to neglected watersheds and pathogenic material entering streams, urging public care and education to reduce typhoid and other waterborne diseases.
