In a close municipal election the wet ticket edged the dry faction with about a 15 vote margin, returning Evans to anti saloon policy but hinting at future shifts. The vote saw arrests and heated debate as Rev J R Rader faced bribery charges, now likely dismissed.
Weld County farmers and Greeley club directors debated a beet sugar factory plan dubbed the Durango plan. The Farmers Union backed pursuing a cooperative effort to profit from beets at $7.50 to $10 per ton, with support from local business groups and the Commercial club.
Preliminary notice says a Chautauqua course will be held in Greeley for a week starting June 22 if season tickets sell. Samuel Miller, a pioneer and well liked Eaton citizen and engineer at the Waterworks, died yesterday afternoon at Greeley hospital from an appendix abscess after illness began Saturday. Miller, 45, born in town, came West over 20 years ago, leaves a widow and three children, and was a member of the M W A and W O W. The funeral will be held at the home at 2 o'clock tomorrow afternoon with Rev Tyre and the new minister conducting services.
Clarence A. Buskirk, a Boston church lecturer and former Indiana attorney, spoke at the Greeley opera house under First Church of Christ Scientist auspices. Joe Knutson son of Mr and Mrs John Knutson died at Greeley hospital after a weeklong illness following an appendectomy. He was 21 born in Greeley and had recently return from Idaho to live here. Survived by parents a brother Levi and sisters Ruth Rhoda and Phoebe. Funeral at 2 pm Friday at the Swedish Free church with Rev Leafgren and Rev Berger.
Liam Athens proprietor of Champion shoe shining parlor on Fifth Avenue claims a new April Fool record after an imitation five dollar bill was placed on the sidewalk. Early risers grabbed at the bill, with 217 to 1 counts of those who tried for the supposed wealth, noting 56 men and 61 women involved before it stuck.

Fort Lupton April 2 arrest of W M Stofer on statutory offense warrant. he is 23 and held on a ranch near town.
Prominent American musician and educator William B. Matthews died Monday at his Denver home after a brief illness. He was 86 and widely known for his contributions to music education. He often visited Greeley and left many friends there.
The city of Greeley may purchase the old county jail’s four lower steel cells for about 3500 dollars while La Salle considers acquiring the two upper cages. The blocks were made 35 years ago by Pauley Jail Building company. The sale would clear the old structure for demolition and lawn space around the new jail. A bid to remove the building has been received. the council has not yet decided. Mrs. W. G. Hubbel wife of Fort Lupton Press editor and two children arrived home this morning after a two month stay in California visiting her parents Mr and Mrs W B Cronkite. The Cronkites are Greeley residents and expect to return home in a month.
