Gun Shipment Found May Have Been Destined for IRA
Customs found submachine guns and hand grenades in trunks from the Queen Elizabeth liner voyage from New York to Cork. The arms, believed destined for the Irish Republican Army in Northern Ireland, were uncovered at Cobh Harbor amid heightened Britain Ireland security checks. A man who accompanied the trunks from New York was unidentified. searches extended to coffins and cargo in London and Manchester. In Belfast, a British soldier died after a roadblock shooting and a man was tarred and feathered amid IRA enforcement claims.
