Rainbow Family Seeks Assurances on Granby Land Purchase
Sponsors of a July Rainbow Family festival at Strawberry Lake Granby say they have raised about 20,000 toward buying 300 acres for 1 million to host a permanent community, but demand assurances from state and local authorities that there will be no interference. Officials oppose the gathering citing fire, sanitation, and safety concerns amid zoning and health regulation changes. A Colorado patrol command post will operate in the Granby area as authorities tighten oversight.

Poll shows mixed views on 1976 Winter Olympics for Colorado
Washington report notes a Denver poll of about 45 000 respondents found 45.8 percent saying the games would be good for Colorado while 42 percent disagreed. McKevitt cautions the debate centers on planning and financing rather than staging the Olympics, with calls for non national scope and more credible cost estimates.

Task force members stress treating drug usage as a community problem not limited to a single age. The text notes concerns that marijuana may lead to harder drugs, though most studies do not support this link. The Greeley survey shows a relation between frequent marijuana use and other factors.

Open Space Council Urges Defeat of Water Proposal
The Colorado Open Space Council and allied groups urged Denver voters to reject a $200 million water development bond. They cited the Eagle-Piney, Foothills, North Fork of the South Platte, and Myree projects with costs totaling hundreds of millions, arguing the plan serves developers and Denver growth rather than public needs. The Rocky Mountain Center on Environment joined in, recommending studies be completed before moving ahead and urging a comprehensive growth plan instead.
