Pilot Kiffer Dies After Bailout Near Melrose Range

First Lt. John F. Kiffer, 24, of Sandusky Ohio, died near Clovis Air Force Base when his F-105 crashed during practice gunnery. He bailed out at about 1,000 feet after engine trouble. parachute failed to open. Kilfer was one of three pilots on the Melrose range when the incident occurred.
