Wild West Returns as Sheep Thieves Haul 4300 Near Hawke’s Bay

Wellington reports a Wild West scene in New Zealand with five or more trucks used by thieves to lift 4,300 worth of sheep from a Takapau station near Hawke’s Bay. The sheep vanished without trace as the culprits fled toward the Naaruroro River, leaving investigators baffled.

Miss Elizabeth McGuffie, former minister of education at the First Congregational church, was honored with a handkerchief shower hosted by Mrs. Kenneth Cooper at 45 West Lane. The event included a dinner with Coopers and a surprise party for McGuffie, who is moving to Seattle, with numerous Congregational teachers and friends in attendance.

Alice Fink to Spend Six Weeks in California Visit

Miss Jessie Alice Fink of 4515 Terth Avenue departs Denver for six weeks in California. She will attend the sixtieth wedding anniversary of Bir and Mia Lee Fink, gather two sisters and two brothers for a family reunion at Van Nuys, and visit relatives in National City and San Francisco. She will start at 1983 Knox Street, San Francisco, and may be reached at 05 East Thitheath Street, National City, mid July.

Worthwhile Workers HD club met at Mrs Brooks Cole home to hear a report by president Mrs Harvey Bernhardt on the two day convention. Mrs Dick McKee spoke on Achievement Day and a July 34 meeting was planned at Mrs Harold Goldsmith home. Rev James Brock spoke on Religion in the Home noting high divorce rates from lack of home concern. Mystery auction package and birthday gift given to members. International dinner in May praised. Guests included Miss Gersuda Guthrie and their spouses. Traces of a 1st century wall painting were found at Dover College main hall in England.
