Enlistees and Discharges Reach Local Fort Knox and Navy

Uniformed Steven Anderson, a Greeley high school graduate, enlists in the army Tuesday and will join the Third Armored division at Fort Knox Kentucky. He is the son of Mr and Mrs Norman Anderson of 1424 Fourteenth Avenue. Also home is Ralph Gregg Merrill who received an honorable navy discharge after four years service and is returning to Boulder. Merrill, son of Mr and Mrs F E Merrill of 1869 Ninth Street, spent time with his brother and wife in Chicago and notes the four-year enlistment anniversary. He is an electronics technician who trained at Treasure Island and Pensacola and earned a Colorado University degree in mathematics and physics. He plans to complete a master’s in music at Boulder. Four county youths enlist in the Marine Corps for four-year terms: Kinds father and Kling, both of Ault, Griffith of Greeley, and Almanza of Evans. They are undergoing recruit training in San Diego. Also notes PFC William Raney of Fort Lupton who just completed summer training at Fort Crockett Texas.

Fort Huood Soldier Serves In 1st Armored Division

A cannoneer in Battery B of the division's 65th Field Artillery Battalion, he joined the army in December 1953, completed basic training at Fort Ord California, and is a 1951 Fort Lupton High School graduate. He is stationed abroad as a soldier in the 1st Armored Division.
