Partly cloudy Monday night and Tuesday with possible thunderstorms in the north. Slight temperature changes and possible showers with thunderstorms overnight into Tuesday. Forecast shows a 24 hour period ending at night with high near 77 and low around 48. Moisture levels rise slightly.
Six escapees from the Colorado reformatory seized a guard's rifle then fled. After a daylight siege, four were captured near here while two remained at large, with authorities pursuing at Linhwardi and other nearby locations. Names and ages of several escaped inmates are listed.
Troop No. 5 of Greeley affiliated with the Medalist church won top honors at the Nip Weld County Scout Camporee held Saturday and Sunday at Island Lava Park. The trophy crowned best display in the track meet rally and camp appearance. Cheyenne Troop 112 won a special award, while seven troops competed including Troops 1 and 10 of Greeley, 31 of Johnstown, 44 Hingedale, 61 and 112 Cheyenne.
Funeral services for Virgil Ring are set for Wednesday at 2 pm at Saltley Funeral Home chapel with interment at Linn Grove.
The condition of Mrs East Morris, 25, of Milliken, who suffered burns when a power shed exploded last Friday at Gresley, showed further improvement at the Greeley hospital. Medical staff report prospects of recovery are brighter and note that her husband, Earl Morris, was killed in the incident.
A serious wreck west of Lupton left 12 people injured on Sunday evening and two others fatally hurt. The injured were taken to Greeley and Boulder hospitals with varying degrees of trauma, while investigators traced the crash to a left turn by Donald Bowery into the path of another vehicle. Local families, including Mrs. Givens of Sterling and Mrs. McEldowney of Boulder, were among those hospitalized and described in injury detail.
Earl Morris funeral arrangements announced for Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock at Salelay Paneral Home chapel with interment to follow at Elwell Cemetery in Johnstown.
Thundershowers across Greeley and county Sunday night brought moisture with little damage. Irrigation kept topsoil moist, aiding the early potato district south of Greeley. Scattered showers yielded up to 0.26 inch. some areas reported 0.20 inch near the public service site. None of the western Greeley zone saw significant damage, while other towns noted brief showers with minimal impact on crops.
At the University of Colorado Boulder a heavily guarded Benes delivered a cautious pledge amid near-term hopes of defeating dictatorships. The Associated Press notes the address urged democracy and warned of upheavals, while guards protected the speaker from potential threats and the crowd from disturbance.
Byron Nelson won the forty third National Open in Philadelphia with a 70 to Graly Waad's 73 in a second playoff at the Philadelphia Country Club. Nelson held the lead through the final rounds and secured the title after a dramatic extra-hole duel.
In Well county Wisconsin a miner identified as Mouacez was wounded at the State Mine south of Myle. Manuel Garrett, 50, of State Mine, was taken into custody after witnesses said he fired the shotgun. The injured man was rushed to St Vrain hospital at Longmont in critical condition. The county sheriff planned to continue the investigation with the aid of witnesses and pending Will of Mona run.
Coloracts Springs reports that 102 graduates received Bachelor of Arts degrees from Colorado College and 10 master's degrees were awarded at Up BSI. Commencement exercises were held in Shove Memorial Chapel today with elisa.
A man named Carl Doreey at Bunton, Kran avich, faced questioning after a car theft report linked him to a Belated incident. Sally recovered the Dyers car in Dyes Careless Driving case details. A collision on Greenley Avenue near Creely involved Hasmid Altes, causing $80 in damage.
Two people were injured in a mid afternoon crash near Christy Corner west of Miltiken. Mrs Martin and Mrs Kanaan were in a Platte Villa district car when it collided with another vehicle. Police secured an ambulance from Terthard and the injured were taken to a hospital in Denver.
