Land use bill may be scrapped to save concept in Colorado

Sponsors of a sweeping land policy agreed to destroy their original bill to preserve the land use concept in the Colorado General Assembly. Debate focused on redrafting SB 377 with a simpler plan and regional commissions. opposition feared loss of Front Range controls and high costs.

Summer music program set at Greeley Recreation

Registration forms for the six week summer music program are due Friday at the Greeley Recreation Department office. The expanded program, run with the Community Center for the Creative Arts and Greeley School District Six, offers classes for ages 3-16 in violin, viola, cello, elementary and concert bands, and music activities for grades 1-5.

Lions Hold Sixth Annual Colorado Lions Convention in Greeley

Hundreds of Lions and Lionesses from across Colorado gathered in Greeley for the 6th annual Multiple District Six Lions convention. Activities kicked off with State Council meetings and dinners at the Ramada Inn, a Thursday parade at 3 30 p m, and a Friday Colorado Night speech by Robert J Uplinger of Syracuse N Y at the University Center ballroom. Senator Peter H Dominick spoke at a Friday luncheon, with opening sessions at Frasier Theater on the UNC campus and numerous events through Saturday as new officers were to be named.

Tuition increases at University of Northern Colorado set

University of Northern Colorado raises tuition for summer quarter with resident per quarter at 898 and nonresident at 890 for over six credits, plus lower rates for six or fewer credits. Full-time summer fees rise to 33, part timers pay 11. Fall winter spring fees drop 1 due to end of library fund drive. Kenneth Homyak of Fort Lupton noted as association president.

Silver Bell awards honor Tribune and Craig reporters

Two Colorado Silver Bell awards were presented to the Greeley Tribune and Tribune reporter Jim Craig by the Colorado Education Association. Tribune editor Robert Widlund accepted the award from CEA president Bill Camer as GTA past president Rich Stolle presented it in Craig. The ceremony praised Tribune coverage of educational news and drew local officials and educators.

Partial UNC parking closure for $339,542 site project

UNC will close the north portion of the west campus parking lot adjacent to the James A. Michener Library as part of a 339,542 site improvement project begun in April and due for completion by July 1. The south lot stays open and may lack paving. Contractor is Hensel Phelps of Greeley.

Greeley Recreation Offers July Basketball Clinic and Art Classes

The Greeley Recreation Division with local coaches sponsors a July basketball clinic for ages 0 through high school, July 9 18 21 9 am to 4 20 pm daily 60 dollars contact Rob Wagner or Led Kuhn. An eight week art class series runs weekly with fees 18 instructors Jody Goodwine crafts watercolor drawing schedule listed. Youth Loses $1050 To Thief In Burglary

A 14 year old Greeley resident reported to police that an amount totaling 1050 dollars was stolen from a drawer in the victim's bedroom. The lapse occurred Sunday night or Monday morning with no forced entry and no suspect seen near the house.
