Newark born lawyer Pharle s H Jackson about 40 was found dead in a cabin in Horseshoe Park near Estes Park. Coroner cites sudden illness possibly overdose. friends suspect self inflicted death though motive unclear. He planned permanent Colorado residence and had studied law at Princeton.

Quiet High School Sweethearts Wed In Home Ceremony

Clarence B Sherman and Ethel Merrill were married Saturday at the Sherman home 1230 Twelfth Street. The couple, childhood playmates from Wisconsin, shared a simple home wedding with only family present. After the ceremony Rev. D. D. Forward joined them for a modest reception and plans to reside at 1224 Twelfth Street. The Merrills return to Wisconsin soon.

Potato Crop Short in Southwest Triggers Higher Prices

Southwest moisture has caused potato crop losses with rotted tubers, lifting prices. Early potatoes sold for 1.25 to 1.50 per bushel during rains but fell to 60 to 60 cents as shipments rose. Later harvests showed rot, pushing prices up to 80, 90 cents and one dollar per bushel, with further increases possible.

Big Chorus 10 Meet Tonight in Greeley

Weld County Farmers Union Formed with 200 Members

The Weld County Farmers Union was officially organized last Saturday with about 200 representative farmers in attendance. R. M. Hathorn was elected president and Robert Bliss secretary, forming one of the first county unions in the state. Resolutions and by laws were adopted and plans discussed to hire an active secretary to advance union interests.

County Bar Discuss Laws at Weld County Meeting

The Weld County Bar association met Saturday evening in the county courtroom. Senator Carpenter spoke on laws passed by the eighteenth general assembly, with focus on the court of appeals and revision of legal procedures. The next meeting will be held in September with a banquet.

Greeley Spuds Sweep Denver Visitors In Ten Inning Classic

Greeley Spuds defeated the Annunciation team of Denver 4 3 in ten innings then won the second game 9 0. Joe Suilens pitched well for Greeley despite a rough eighth inning while Nichols starred for the visitors until the eighth. Marsh and Riley sparkled behind the plate and in the field as the home team showed sharp, attentive play. Buckles hit two home runs in the second game as the Spuds pounded the ball throughout.

Mrs. Mary C. Ewing Dies After Brief Illness

Mrs. Mary C. Ewing a longtime Greeley resident dies at home after a brief illness. She was active in the Congregational church and leaves six children 81 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. Services were held at the family home conducted by Rev. John Doane with private interment following.

Grads of 1901 Hold Reunion at Normal

Graduates of 1901 at the State Normal gathered in the gymnasium for their second class reunion. Twenty two members attended of sixty nine possibles, with letters from twelve absent grads read. A banquet served, decorations featured class colors red and green and kinskinnick flowers.

W. O. W. Memorial Day Observance Details

Woodmen of the World observed Memorial Day with a hall gathering, a march to the Christian church for a memorial address by Rev. Thompson, and a later cemetery service led by W. E. Keyes. Thirty five graves were decorated and the Strobl monument was unveiled as the year’s sole member death. Large lodge attendance recorded.
