A severe storm last evening with unusual clear-hail battered Greeley and surrounding towns. Homes and cellars flooded, ditches broke, the Evans reservoir overflowed, tracks washed away, and a lightning strike caused a fire damage to a residence.
A railroad construction crew halted by a washout near Evans delays on Sixth Avenue while a street railway gang is kept from resuming. Flooding devastates Greeley with hundreds of homes, cellars, and businesses damaged. losses exceed fifty thousand dollars as Marsh Street area losses mount. Over eight hundred spectators witnessed a lively track event at Island Grove park on Independence Day. The day featured a close ball game, a free-for-all handicap with fourteen starters, and a dramatic unseating incident involving Due Hal driven by Archie Camp. Offero and Orange Hall led wins in trot and pace events as Secretary March organized the program amid cheers from racing and diamond fans.

Mrs. Orville Shattuck hosted forty guests Wednesday morning to celebrate sister Miss Margaret Wheeler visiting from the east. A fine musical program delighted attendees followed by a dainty breakfast on small decorated tables, with blossoms enhancing the scene.
Donald McLain, arrested last week for cattle rustling, was brought in again Saturday by Deputy Woland on a horse stealing charge. The sheriff’s office says evidence shows McLain stole a horse near Pierce. McLain remains jailed awaiting his brothers to post bond.
Carl Sanborn, Mr. Turner and C. O. Harris escaped injury when their car ran off a road near the city Sunday evening. The vehicle overturned into a ditch, leaving the occupants trapped under the car in a foot and a half of water until they woke up.
The D A R hosted a Friday card party at Mrs. B D Sanborns home, selling invitations to attract funds. About eighty guests attended as veranda and lawn were decorated with national colors, and light refreshments followed. Members plan to study colonial history and may use proceeds to finance monuments near Greeley.
Six drunks were arrested in Monday's celebration and held after the storm. Henry O'Connor faced three charges totaling 50 dollars. Dan Ballenger's fine rose to 25 dollars. Arthur Mashburn Charles Pace C F Anderson and John Garnett each paid 19 dollars, offset by an innocent party who financed their liberty. George Weber denied intoxication and will be tried this afternoon.
Ault Special Little Alec Schmidt, aged 1, burned hands and face while holding a large cracker. The child, with missing eyelashes and a battered appearance, sought cold water for relief as a neighbor offered aid and remedies.

Stanley Hunter journeys to Denver for the state convention of the Christian Endeavor societies. He will join sister Irene for a summer visit with parents in Riverside California after the meeting. Stanley is a Princeton student and Irene attends Colorado College.
Ault marked Thursday half holiday with a baseball game between the first nine and a pickup nine. The score stood 17 to ? in favor of the first team as crowds watched with much interest.
