Burlington Northern Inc. announced a principal agreement with Coastal States Gas Corp to conduct oil and gas exploration on about seven million acres across six states. The three year program grants Coastal States exploration and development rights while Burlington Northern retains 25 percent of development rights and an 85 thousand acre area near a recent North Dakota oil find. Coastal States will pay four point five million dollars in cash over three years and spend at least fifteen million on exploration, spurred by the energy crisis.
