The parcel post system takes effect tomorrow January 1 1913 with rules for sender addresses, proper packaging and insured parcels up to 50 dollars. Stamps must be used and liquor cannot be mailed. Packages go via post offices or rural routes with rural carriers ready to handle the service. Rates table to follow.
U S Attorney General Wickersham says Indianapolis court was lenient in punishing 38 labor union men tied to the McNamara dynamite conspiracy. Sentences ranged from one day to seven years with several suspended. Edward Clark of Cincinnati received a suspended term after pleading guilty.
Windsor reports the infant born Sunday to Mr. and Mrs. John Comin died yesterday. The Episcopal church hosts Christmas exercises tonight with Rev. B. W. Bowell and Rev. C. H. Brady of Greeley in attendance. George Briggs, a pioneer, is seriously ill and may be critical. Mrs. Fred Bruner is steadily improving and seen to be out of danger in two days.
Three thousand letters poured into Elgin after a post card read Miss Radcliffe must marry before January 1 to inherit $30,000. The letters, sent from a small Texas post office as the deadline passed, led to a search for the would be heiress who could not be found and were sent to the dead letter office.
Special to The Republican from Frederick reports A Nixon of this town is jailed in Greeley after a family dispute in which he allegedly beat his wife with a fire shovel. An officer arrived and Nixon resisted arrest. Deputy Sheriff Charles B. Peterson transported him to Greeley for a forthcoming hearing.
Special to The Republican. Raymer December 31. Karl Bostock was injured when a wagon ran over his left leg after he darted for corn and a horse jumped. Mrs J G Fouts and Annie Summers suffered fright and bruises in a runaway. John Merton was thrown from his buggy as spirited grays bolted at an automobile, the buggy wrecked.
Auburn December 31. C H Wadsworth had seven acres of beans threshed by Ollie O Farrell. The beans produced 187 bushels. Other local farmers will also have threshing completed in the vicinity.
Edward T. Nichols, once a Greeley citizen, died in Sacramento and his body will be brought here tonight or tomorrow morning for burial. If arrival permits, services will be held at 11 o clock tomorrow at Macy's parlors. A sister, Mrs. Sarah Gumner of Denver, visits the EB L. Dunham home to arrange the funeral. Two other sisters live in Denver and will come. Nichols was the son of E. G. Nichols, a pioneer merchant of this city.
Fort Collins December 31 The State Agricultural college leads state institutions by wiping out indebtedness four years after a $56000 debt at 8 percent. Under new management officials capped interest at 6 percent, banks refunded excess 2 percent, and lands remain a long term burden while the college reports unmatched financial discipline.
Weld county farmers will receive institute program booklets for a broad series of topics at the Greeley opera house. Experts cover labor issues parcels post road building sugar beets and pests with a livestock day and topics on silos dairying and marketing. Bruce G Eaton funds the rent for the venue and a free town show is arranged for Thursday night with Sterling anticipated to be crowded.
Yesterday a 12 foot brick wall at the Frank feed mill collapsed due to wind and an unstable foundation created by an excavation for concrete. The wall will be torn down and rebuilt.
Kersey, Dec 31. Charles Soloff and Miss Amelia Saenger both of this place were married in Denver yesterday. Both are well known and will make their home near here.
Fort Collins reports from the Denver office of the C and I indicate conductorless operation may soon be tried on the D and I line. An annual loss near 6000 dollars spurs cost cutting with pay as you enter and automatic registers. A new loop at Whedbee street or a Y at Anderson corner may be built, costing money officials fear.
The Republican invites children to write letters about the feature 4 film shown at the free matinee the day before Christmas. Entries must reach this office by next Monday noon. Two prizes will be published in The Republican. One prize is a three month theater ticket and the other a one month pass. Parents are urged to remind their children.
City residents plan watch night services from 9 to 12 at the Methodist Episcopal church with stirring addresses music solos by Edna Welsh and Winifred Rugh and sermons by ministers. Congregational church holds its annual meeting, while other churches may host similar observances as midnight nears.
An evening meeting of the Woodmen of the World will install officers for the coming year and serve an oyster supper. Plans include social events and committee appointments for winter activities.
Governor-elect Ammons and state engineer W. R. Adams led a conference with Charles W. Comstock and others to back a dedicated irrigation court for water rights. They argue expertise is essential as Colorado holds vast irrigated lands and seek a Wyoming style board with strong judicial authority to reduce disputes.

Scores of manufacturers telegraph the Senate finance committee warning that Democratic tariff bills will pass as written. Republicans say no concessions will be made and expect the Democrats to reap political punishment in two years. Sugar on the free list may fail as southern votes loom against it.
Ault December 31 members of the Card club will entertain their husbands and friends with cards and dancing tonight in Allison hall. The party will run until midnight.
Farmers and irrigation officials fret over unusually dry winter as Chambers lake snow measures only three to four inches while reservoirs fill slowly. Ground is saturated so any new snow will feed rivers, and a heavy two month snow, plus spring rain, is needed to avert next season’s shortages.
