A preliminary study by the Northeast Colorado Criminal Justice Planning Council analyzes criminal profiles in Weld and Larimer Counties. It details typical burglars, rapists, and robbers, noting rising crime rates and suggesting prevention steps and program enhancements for local law enforcement.
The state's sheriff will meet in Loveland for their annual convention hosted by the Larimer County Sheriff's Posse. Activities include a symphona Saturday, speed events Saturday morning, roping Sunday, and an awards banquet Sunday evening. A Friday business meeting at 7:30 will elect officers and choose the 1974 site.

More than 100 residents and property owners in the area between 14th and 2nd Avenues and 1st and lifth Streets are gathering signatures to stop rezoning of the 1800 block of 2nd Street that would permit a convenience store and a laundry facility. They argue the facilities are unnecessary and would not serve current needs, noting many such establishments already exist nearby. The action follows a planning commission discussion on August 14 led by Dave Fahrenkrog, owner of the affected property, who urged tabling the proposal. A city council session is planned at 3 p.m. with the chambers listed, and petition sponsors urge local residents to attend.
Four indicted men including George Mala David Benavidez Albert Ortega and Danny Allen pleaded innocent as Judge Behrman set Sept 25 for trial. Seven defendants appeared with attorneys to be appointed for four others and all cases continued to early September. Prosecutor said indictments involved a large scale burglary ring across Northern Colorado and Cheyenne area with multiple thefts dated 1971.
The Museum of Navajo Ceremonial Art was burglarized during the weekend. Authorities say a private corporation founded by Mary Cabot Wheelwright in 1997 faced theft charges involving a 12 gauge shotgun and a 410 shotgun. Conspiracies link multiple suspects to burglaries at local venues. $30 reportedly taken.
