Two Hours Per Fish On The Upper Mississippi River
A 1946 survey by seven members of the Upper Mississippi Conservation committee shows anglers averaged about one fish per two hours along the Mississippi from Hastings Minnesota to Dubuque Iowa. Summer catches were dominated by bass bluegill and walleye with other species making smaller shares. Most fishing used normal minnows and minnows artificial bait accounted for under 15 percent. About 20 percent of anglers were women.

Ice track sinks in West Okoboji lake
An ice track belonging to Wood Alea of Spirit Lake, loaded with about eight tons of ice, sank to 25 feet in West Okoboji lake after cracking despite 14 inch thickness. No one aboard. In Winfield a deep well drilling reached 1,650 feet and may extend to 2,000 feet.
