Patchwork of local gossip and wry verse notes
A column rakes through names and snippets of small town life with humor and innuendo. It names Elva Knott and several residents, touches on political gender debates, automotive bets, bank moves, and social quips about love, hair styles, Englishmen, and local clergy, all in a breezy, self mockery tone. The piece blends verse snippets with chatter, teasing characters like Hurd, Sweigard, and the Coop ers family, ending with a pun on local roads near the Presbyterian church.
M E Children’s Day Program Impresses Congregation
The M E church last Sunday hosted a Children’s Day program with wide participation from all ages. A crowded, warm yet lively service featured a strong choir, special music, floral decorations, and a closing talk by Rev. Porter on the meaning of Children’s Day, followed by a generous collection.
