Toronto News lauds Britain for mobilizing 5.5 million in army and 500,000 sailors, financing allied operations, keeping sea lanes open, lending nearly 2 million tons of shipping, and expanding tonnage with 4 million tons to be added next year amid submarine threats.
Mineola N Y September 18 colonel Theodore Roosevelt becomes the first civilian to ride in an airplane powered by the new Liberty motor. Pilot H J Blakely ascends to 5000 feet and reaches speeds of 90 to 110 mph during a half hour test flight over Hempstead Garden City with Roosevelt aboard. The former president praises the experience after landing.
A joint resolution passed by Congress requires the drafting of all aliens in the United States except Germans and other nations allied with Germany who have lived here for at least a year. Estimated impact exceeds 1,000,000 individuals. Under Senator G E Chamberlain plan, Allies or neutrals claiming treaty exemption may depart within 90 days.
Seattle Sept. 15 H F Dodd 32 chief boatswain's mate at the University of Washington has a letter from his attorneys reporting litigation over the $860000 estate of his uncle Frederick Dodd who died in South Africa ten years ago decided in the young man's favor. The estate includes $700000 in mining shares and $160000 in personal effects he intends to remain in the navy.
The London Standard praises American soldiers abroad as lean, wiry, decisive doers with a distinct United States air. A Cleveland Plaindealer quote notes soldiers are a melting pot blend of French, German, English, Dutch, Scottish and Irish heritage yet fully American.

Britain France Italy and Belgium flags will rise while the Stars and Stripes stands tallest. The A C M band of Butte provides patriotic music as nations hymns accompany each flag. Lectures by Theodore Roosevelt and James W Gerard are planned with Governor Samuel Stewart presiding. A "Half Acre of War" trench exhibit with front line, wire entanglements and sandbag defenses will illustrate modern warfare with expert explanations.
